ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Shiite Muslims staging a religious procession near Pakistan’s capital Friday killed seven Sunnis from an Islamic seminary for insulting them as they passed, officials said.

The Shiites were observing Ashoura, which commemorates the 7th century death of the Prophet Muhammad’s grandson. The schism between Sunnis and Shiites dates back to that time.

I don’t know about down your way, but it was well over a hundred years ago up here in Ontario. In the area I live in now, there were people known as the “Cavan Blazers”. Protestants trying to run the Catholics out. You can imagine how they got their name.

Yeah, I am sure we too can go back in history and find some people like that. But, the point is that we have to go back in history to find it. In the Islamic world, religious-inspired violence is as normal as breathing.

Note this years “At A Glance” desk calendar purchased at Office Depot features Ashura on the 13th of November. This is the first time I’ve noticed this showing up on these calendars.
Also note the absence of Sunni outrage of such a notation. It’s all good between Sunni and Shia while expanding dawa.

You know, I am starting to think that a condition of society is a primary problem and religion is an implementation.
True, Inquisition was long time ago but Protestants and Catholics were hacking each other to death in Ireland as far as late 1980s.
Up to this moment Russians are beheading Muslims, ripping them apart between armored vehicles, often with priest’s presence encouraging people to behave this way - all in a name of Christ.
I am talking about the US here. I guess you could also include Canada with that. Both countries have a long history religious toleration. Most of Western Europe following WWII could also be included.
I know someone else is going to find an exception. Really, this is not a common thing here. There, the Muslim world, it is very common. That is all I am saying.

Northern Ireland is a conflict more about nationalism and territory than religion. The protestant invaders from Britain forcefully took over Catholic Ireland. Northern Ireland just didn't rid itself of the invaders as did the bulk of the Island in creation of the Republic of Ireland. So the war wears on, suppressed Catholics against the protestant occupiers. This is not comparable to Shia against Sunni conflicts, which is over religious dogma.
I never said it was. He just asked when was the last time we heard of Protestants beating Catholics to death.
