Health insurance companies are crying foul over new measures President Obama announced Thursday as a political tweak to his fast-disintegrating Affordable Care Act, making the fix potentially worse than the problem.
'This whole thing it's a mess,' an insurance company official told MailOnline, speaking on background. 'With six weeks left before New Year's, I don't know how the White House expects us to fix what's already happened.'
Obama 'kind of threw us under the bus today,' one of the regulators told The New York Times.
'The presidents "administrative fix" is an attempt to create a lifeboat for ObamaCare to get his party through the 2014-midterm elections,' said South Carolina Republican Rep. Jeff Duncan. 'The presidents actions appear to be unconstitutional.'
Obama's new plan, the insurance companies fret, won't magically fix things for the estimated 5 million people who are already affected.
And some in the industry believe that Obama is setting them up to be the fall guys if the latest flavor-of-the-month tweak to Obamacare sours.

Of course Obama is setting the regulators and insurance companies up. During his spiel, he basically tossed the problem to them. Now, if it fails, Obama will have them to blame.
Faux anger by the companies. bammer is going to give them a bailout. He will buy them off.
Obama only said that he will use "prosecutorial discretion" if insurance companies want to provide pre-Obamacare plans to their customers. In other words, he won't go after them for breaking the new law.
However, there's nothing that compels the insurance companies to offer the cancelled plans again, and I think few will. Obama's 'fix' ain't gonna amount to anything but stale air. His co-conspirators in Congress are still going to be left dangling in the wind.
Mr. Obama? How is it you think you have the power to amend a law by fiat...the literal law of the land...and bypassing Congress to do it?
As a follow up; "Do you see yourself as King of America?"
I'm certain that all of them will ignore Obama's offer to let them skate on complying with the new law. There's nothing (that we know of) that compels them to offer the cancelled plans again.
His little act looks like another Keystone Kops backfire.
Working in the insurance industry in today’s climate has to be pure hell. My company is self insured and we are twisting around like pretzels.
They've been badly burned by this pResident, and they know it. I highly doubt a single insurance company will be foolish enough to trust him to keep his latest promise.
They're not going to suddenly begin re-writing the old plans, just so he can turn around and prosecute them for violating the law, after his bacon is pulled from the fire.
Where's he gonna get the bailout money from?
According to Rush, the Executive Branch has the power to “not enforce” laws. That’s what Obama is trying to say he is doing. Not enforce THAT part of ObamaCare. It’s certainly a stretch.
Will the corporate lawyers tell the CEOs “sure, go ahead and break the law. 0bozo said it would be OK.”
Mr. Obama? How is it you think you have the power to amend a law by fiat...the literal law of the land...and bypassing Congress to do it?
Could it be that they are all in the tank and carrying the koolaid?
I hate the MSM even more than I hate The One and his uninformed voter base.
The insurance companies can sell policies direct, without the exchange.
But, by law, those policies must still be Obamacare- compliant.
In other words, there's no gain
Why would any insurance company sell an “illegal policy” at this point?
Insurance Stock holders won’t stand for it.
U.S. Constitution, Article II, Section 3: "...he shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed..."
doc! Is that the same as the pucker factor torquing up tight?
Not on your life.
The boards of all these insurance companies will demand legal opinion letters from their outside counsel firms concluding that the deal Obama proposing is legal and won’t expose the companies to undue liability and risk. Not gonna happen.
What if he says "I guarantee you can break this law?"
Those corp. lawyers would like that wouldn't they? ;^)
You’re absolutely right. Obama is a fool who’s trying desperately to have his cake and eat it too. I think he’s gonna get a Roman candle up his keister instead.
