I just wish we had a leader where such a comment would be considered merely colorful partisan hyperbole, instead of having some potential for actual insight :-)

It’s weird, most likely true, but not enough yet. All Saudi Arabia has to offer is its air space, which solves the main problem of a flight rout for a country with no carriers. They don’t have good pilots, they don’t have a lot of planes. Israel has good pilots, but not enough equipment for Iran, imho. It is big, mountainous, and while evil to the core, the Iranians are not stupid. Can we send over our entire fleet of high-power aircraft? Would even that be enough?

I have no doubt that Israel has boots on the ground in Iran, and that is a major force multiplier. WRT Saudi, the most important thing they can provide is forward basing. AWACS support would be nice too, though.

Multiple-target precision-guided munitions fired from tactical missiles.

Precision-guided wouldn’t be enough. We’d need deep penetration bunker-busters, and to know exactly where everything is.

Have they upgraded those AWACS since Reagan gave it to them? Does any of them know their ass from their elbow yet? The Saudis like trinkets, the more expensive the better.

Yes.

That’s why I think the delivery systems and command-and-control would be targeted rather than production facilities.

That might work. Still, it’s a bitch of a job, sort of like killing an armed giant with a bad attitude with nothing but a slingshot.

hehe

I guess it’s 50-50 that it’s far too late. Netanyahu just doesn’t want to to publicly admit it.

Gambling that somewhere in Iran there’s someone rational willing to take charge.

He’d have to do a convincing job of acting irrational in order to be allowed to take charge. Rationality is a negative in that longitude and latitude.

If I remember correctly, there was an article saying how Azerbaijan allowed Israeli planes into its airspace.

You recall correctly. Israel had negotiated with Azerbaijan to use its airspace and a couple of airfields if they decided to mount an attack on Iran.

However, the agreement was leaked by the U.S. State Department.

If they can just provide an abandoned airbase and turn a blind eye, it’s still a major force multiplier.

Just being able to fly over their peninsula, and have them pretend to be mad while winking would be great. Anything after that coming from them is gravy.

Now negotiating secret deals with Iran behind everyone’s back.
