A United Methodist minister convicted under church law of performing his son’s same-sex wedding ceremony could learn if he’ll be defrocked.

A jury of his pastoral peers convicted the Rev. Frank Schaefer Monday of breaking his vows by officiating the 2007 ceremony in Massachusetts after a trial that has rekindled debate over the denomination’s policies on homosexuality and same-sex marriage.

The jury reconvenes Tuesday morning for the penalty phase, at which both sides will present witnesses. Schaefer could face punishment ranging from a reprimand to a suspension to losing his minister’s credentials. …

Just because one’s child commits a cardinal sin of homosexuality and the charade of two men “marrying,” does not mean that one has to jump into the pool with him and distort and bend civil or religious law to try to rationalize and sanitize the mental illness and religious sin and does not mean that one should therefore get on a bandwagon to get rid of the wise law and the time proven principles behind it.

The homosexual agenda people keep insisting we not only accept their offensive choice, but applaud and toast them. That is a brazen affront to the rest of us. I can think of no other private behavior that any group pushes on society in this way.

The pastor was hurt deeply and somehow reasoned that joining the homosexual agenda charade would heal his own wound about his son’s choice. But the pastor did it without regard for the beliefs and trust in him by the rest of his parish and what he owes in the way of respect for church teachings and church history and the effects of his act on all the others.

I just heard on the news that the pastor refuses to agree to stop performing same-sex weddings because three of his four children are gay. (!)

“...performing his son’s same-sex wedding ceremony could learn if he’ll be defrocked.”

The answer is yes...his son will be defrocked by his birde-groom-it and then be frocked.

This is a big load of frocking poop!

It’s already a travesty that it took 6 years to bring this affront to Christianity to the forefront, much less the numerous instance of more liberal UM “churches” already performing these “marriages” with impunity. And don’t try to sell me the ridiculous “all-Methodist-districts-are-autonomous” excuse. If the UMC as a denomination is anything at all, it has RULES that cannot be broken at the cost of losing one’s identity as United Methodist.

The Southern Baptist Convention also operates on a system of church autonomy. But churches which violate basic Christian principles still risk having the Southern Baptist designation stripped from them as a result. This has happened to at least two church groups in Texas which would not condemn the practice of homosexuality.

So he accepted the ordination of this sect. He knew the doctrines and the disciplines of that sect. he chose to violate them by officiating at a ceremony that contradicts Genesis 1:27; @;23-24; Matthew 19:1-9; and Mark 10:1-12 just to name a few witnesses I can recall. He had enough integrity to not compound his sin by telling a Lie. He should have resigned from the church before it came to this. And the story errs when it claims the only witness to the violation of church discipline was.... God was witness. God will NOT be mocked. Either the Methodist will discipline one of their own and defend the doctrines and laws — Or they will choose to make a mockery of their discipline and laws to accommodate the sinner.the Sacred Writings are True . And the man who chose to violate the laws and discipline of his own sect now expects to be excused? Judgement begins at the pulpit. There are many who have fallen away he may join with them .But to every man is given once to die then the judgement.
