Oh, dumb criminals. When will you learn? Actually, thinking about it…don’t learn. Please make sure to continue not learning. Because when you do not learn, it makes it just so much easier for the police to catch you. The story of Rolando Lozano and the Rosenberg Police Department in Texas beautifully illustrates this.

Probly what Ingtar said. He probly has all his privacy settings unlocked and all his personal info posted for the cops to see. Pretty funny!

His FB page is still up there, and I don't see any address or anything that would have been any help. They already knew his name, so I would assume that he wasn't hiding out at his own home in the first place.

If they were already looking for him, they also could have had a search warrant ready. (Though this maroon was probably at his own house.)

They knew who he was, and they knew where he lived. FB let them know his whereabouts (friend's house, public Wifi somewhere, etc.) when he made the post.

He knew they were looking for him, so he likely wasn't home (otherwise he would have been picked up already). He posted from somewhere else, and they tracked it down very quickly.

They probably got a warrant or consent on the brother’s phone, got this guy’s number and a warrant for the cell data from the phone company. Doesn’t take nearly as long as getting ISP data.

The premise of the article is that the post on FB lead to his capture.

Where does it say that he doesn’t have a smart phone and is posting from that? I don’t know how long it takes to get an ISP to answer a warrant. The phone company doesn’t take any time at all.

His post didn't have the "posted by mobile" attached to it (or "posted from iphone", etc.).

Besides, if they already had his cell number, then why didn't they just track that before he posted on FB?

Sometimes on Facebook it might say: Posted from McDonalds (or where ever) in such and such city

They showed the post in question, and it had no such clue.

ow did they get the IP address from FB, then get the physical address from the corresponding ISP, and then arrest him in that time period... and still use proper warrants?

Well... it's not that hard.

What is my IP ADDRESS and WHERE AM I ?

That IP addr lookup says I'm in Boynton Beach. I'm actually in Delray Beach (next town south of Boynton Beach).

Plus, getting the guy's IP addr in the first place requires talking to someone at FB and having them look in their logs. Then, to get my actual address would require talking to my ISP.

There are a lot of explanations I can see that would be more innocent. Someone saw the post who knew him and where he was and turned him in. This could easily have been caused by the (alleged) perp’s post alerting his ‘friends’ he was wanted. I doubt many of them follow the police site. He could also have used a cell phone stolen in the rampage that was being monitored legally. They could have already been on the way to get him from another report. There is no way the police would give the explanation and ruin the mystique this will create.

Then again, they could have asked the NSA.
