Republican Florida Rep. Trey Radel said late Wednesday he will take a leave of absence and donate his salary after pleading guilty to misdemeanor cocaine possession, one day after his run-in with the law was made public.

Radel was sentenced to one year of supervised probation for purchasing 3.5 grams of cocaine, valued at $250, from an undercover officer.

No word on whether he had a tax dodge like Charlie Rangel, or if he had a whorehouse run out of his home like Barney Frank, if he molested a male intern repeatedly like Gerry Studds, or if he drove off a bridge and swam away while a girl drowned like Ted Kennedy.

Did any of those guys donate their salaries while they got their lives in order?

Nope, ' cause they never thought they were really GUILTY of anything.

I don’t subscribe to the notion one points their finger at the other guys to support a bad apple. IMO, he should resign. Let’t not take a chance on losing this seat. I sense we will need all hands on deck to override a veto coming from the Kenyan when the Congress passes the anti O care bill.

Bonehead should call for his resignation immediately. The GOP House should vote to censure, expel whatever they do to losers like this guy.

We want to keep the focus on the imploding Obama administration.

Could they move the word “republican” up a bit more in the story? Perhaps to the previous story.

first, let me say that he did something stupid.

It should make no difference if he is democrate or republican, he broke the law and should pay the piper.
His crime was not a felony and his punishment should reflect that, however, unlike MANY of his colleuges in Washington who have committed NUMEROUS felonies still walk the streets unscaved. Where is the real justice?

He needs to resign, go get well and not have the tax payers paying for his rehab.
Remember, congress critters and their staff are subsidized by you and me for their cadillac healthcare.

If this were a democrat you would have to read all the way to the last paragraph to find out, if it is mentioned at all, but if a Republican, it is the first word of the first sentence.

I can’t tell you how many times I had to goggle a politicians name, from an article of corruption, just to learn he is a democrat, never had to do that with a republican.

Man, talk about an unforgiving bunch of caesars. I consider the seriousness of the charge, whether the person exhibits regret, and if they are taking steps to correct the problem.

Impenitent and constant recitivism? Then I agree that one must go. Serious, felonious crime? You betcha. But something like this deserves a second chance.

The use of cocaine in and of itself isn’t the problem. I used it myself on occasion when I was much younger. But spending money which goes to the murderous traffickers as part of their profits is what makes him not fit to be part of the US Congress. He’s from Florida, too, where much of this violence takes place. He needs to resign.

If you have achieved any measure of success in your life, you have done so with the forbearance of your bettors.

I believe that in the presence of a contrite spirit, particularly in a misdemeanor offense like this, we ought to extend him a chance to change. His constituents, truly, have the final word anyway.

I don’t disagree with any of that. I just don’t find him fit to serve in the Congress, although his constituents will have to decide that, as you say.
