U.S. Jobless Claims Fall, Hint At Firming Labor Market
FOX BUSINESS ^ | 11/21/2013

The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits fell more than expected last week, suggesting some strengthening of labor market conditions.

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits dropped 21,000 to a seasonally adjusted 323,000, the Labor Department said on Thursday. Claims for the prior week were revised to show 5,000 more applications received than previously reported.

Economists polled by Reuters had expected first-time applications to fall to 335,000 last week.

The four-week moving average for new claims, which irons out week-to-week volatility, fell 6,750 to 338,500.

The numbers mean nothing. That was proven this week.

You don’t have a higher percentage out of work than ever, fewer percentage jobs than ever, and claim that unemployment is getting better in the same breath.

That by itself proves that the LEGAL definition of U3, without any cheating at all, is a big con game.

Shhhhh!

If someone informs Barack ‘Karl Marx’ Obama that someone, somewhere, is making money, he’ll demand a cut.

He has to keep himself in golf clubs, ya know.

For a long time, the numbers for the previous week have been ‘adjusted up’ at 2,000.

Then, it went to 4,000.

Now, it is up to 5,000.

And, when there is a significant change, they just blame the California computer system.

==

Of course, the Census Bureau report earlier this week that the numbers were drastically manipulated just before the 2012 election has been basically ignored.

“U.S. Jobless Claims Fall, Hint At Firming Labor Market” now even Fox takes dictation from the White House. Are these people for real? Why bother posting ANYTHING they put out?

Christmas hiring.

Does not affect initial claims for state unemployment benefits. Why would you think so?

They never give you the info about how many people are no longer filing cause their time is up or they just got frustrated and quit filing. It sure as heck isn’t because people are finding jobs. Although, if I was looking for one, I could have one in a day here. We constantly see help wanted signs wherever we go. They may not be the CEO job but if you’re hungry you take what you can. Well a lot of folks would. Then there’s the “That’s beneath me” folks. That’s why I appreciate the kids that still take jobs in the FF industry while a lot of their friends would never think of working at McD’s.

I notice that last week’s first time jobless claims number was 336,000.

Then today, they report that jobless claims FELL by 21,000 to 323,000. That means they adjusted last week’s jobless claims number to 344,000 ( and even last week they said that the job market is firming ).

I have been looking at this jobless claims numbers since 2009. Almost every week, they would adjust the numbers UPWARDS.

I have yet to see a downward adjustment.

I’m willing to bet the 323,000 this week will be adjusted UPWARDS again next week (together with comments that the job market is getting better ).

Some things just never change.

Always, wait a few weeks for the back-page 6-font upward correction.

The claims report showed the number of people still receiving benefits under regular state programs after an initial week of aid increased 66,000 to 2.88 million in the week ended Nov. 9

Fewer applications, but more recipients. OK, is it just me being dense, or this a further example of the contradictory Orwellian BS in this?

There are the “Numbers” and then there are the “Revised Numbers” and then there are the “Real Numbers”.

So, ever since the big bad Shutdown... GDP increased, the deficit (for October) decreased, and jobs-related data has- at least according to the ever-so trustworthy big gov. officials- slightly improved (as much as they can under Obamanomics, at least).

Amazon warehouses here in Indy are literally begging for evening shift workers. This isn’t min wage either, more like 12 bucks/hr.

Like the Mike Rowe ad says, these days everybody wants to sit in the corner office, not build a corner office.

I would take any job if I needed a job.

I can’t recall ever having a job that didn’t have a stepping stone process to higher levels and higher pay.
