Republican governors say future GOP candidates must show compassion

SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ. — Many Republicans, with eyes trained on the presidential election in 2016, have sorted through the wreckage of the 2012 elections to figure out how and why the GOP suffered such heavy losses, including the White House.

But at the Republican Governors Association conference in Arizona on Wednesday, one theory dominated at an early panel discussion: That the X-factor Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney lacked might have been a more compassionate tone.

"People have to know that you care about them," said Ohio Gov. John Kasich, one of the governors believed to be weighing a presidential bid in 2016. Voters, he said, have to believe that "if they’re stuck in a ditch, you’ll ... push them out."

"If we can demonstrate more of that, people will say, 'That’s a new kind of Republican.' Create jobs, compassion and care."

Alex Castellanos, a Republican consultant, echoed Kasich's remarks, saying that in the eyes of voters the GOP has become the "pass-the-Grey-Poupon party."

I am so sick of all this navel gazing.

Talk about freedom and liberty and jobs!

...Less regulation, lower taxes and combat lawsuit abuse!

JOBS! JOBS! JOBS!

Thus showing they learned NOTHING from the 2012 elections. Typical Elitist Republicans.

How about realism instead of compassion? Tell people how royally screwed we are.

We have a bunch of unfilled Amazon warehouse Christmas jobs here.

I’m not sure that there remains so many folks willing to work for 12 bucks an hour.

The life of Julia is too easy.

Yeah GOP should show the Dems as much compassion as the Dems show the unborn.

Compassion for those most in need is fine but the most compassionate thing anyone can do for the country is ease job creation and leave people alone to succeed or fail on their own.

This really frosts me.

It’s the limousine liberals living off their wealth (with income sheltered) that demand that hard working Americans show compassion by forking their money over to the government so that THEY can buy votes.

Grrrrrrrrr.....

Thank you. But then what should we expect from an organization now headed by Chris Christie?

Consultant whispers in the ear again!

But the democratic oligarchs never need to show any compassion! They say “this is what’s good for you and you are GOING TO TAKE IT!”

How about some compassion for the TAX SLAVES for once!!! Do something right for a change!

Up until now, and it sounds like nothing is going to change, the tax slaves haven't had anyone to vote FOR. They have no reason to vote at all. Why bother? They're not democrats, nor are they Republicrats!

Here we go again: Compassion, Compassion, Compassion.

I guess that “compassion” covers all kinds of political BS.

Addicting citizens to government hand outs in trades for votes is the most evil thing that I can imagine. Compassion is weaning them off so they can be self supporting, self respecting individuals.

I take it the writer doesn’t share my view of compassion? Sorry, DRTA

Hey governors, if you think the taxpayers in your states need to spend more on welfare, then raise their taxes and spend it - IN YOUR STATES.

Don’t try to pass the buck up Washington.

Future GOP candidates need to GO ON THE OFFENSIVE!

Don’t pick up on the phony criticism of the enemy.

You only VALIDATE their position.

You are saying...”Yes you are right. I lack compassion. Here let me show you how I will be more compassionate...IDIOTS!

If they are calling you names and besmirching your character...Call, them names and go after their character!

Tell them they are nothing but “BULLIES!”

That should stop them in their tracks.

Now this world is perverting the meaning of the word compassion. Stupid, mindless, spineless, fit for nothing republicans. These dummies will never out compassion the lying liberals.
