Senate Adopts New Rules on Filibusters

A bitterly divided Senate voted Thursday to ease the confirmation process for most presidential nominees, a momentous and potentially risky step that limits the ability of Republicans to block President Barack Obama's choices for executive-branch and most judicial posts.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) engineered the rules change, over Republican objections, with a complicated parliamentary maneuver that ended up placing new curbs on the use of the filibuster—a move so controversial that it is often called the "nuclear option."

"The American people believe Congress is broken. The American people believe the Senate is broken…It's time to change the Senate before this institution becomes obsolete," Mr. Reid said.

The key vote was 52-48, with all but three Democrats voting for the change and all Republicans opposed. Democratic Sens. Carl Levin of Michigan, Mark Pryor of Arkansas and Joe Manchin of West Virginia broke from their party and voted against changing the rules.

Well Tea Party needs to use this, it’s an opportunity to paint ALL Dem Senate candidates as a threat. It doesn’t matter what they voted on,,the fact the Dems have a chance to keep the Senate will mean more of this little stunts will take place. The Tea Party needs to hammer that home. Dem controlled Senate, or not? This is what happens when the Dems get drunk on their power.

The faster they do all this, the more likely the people will revolt. At the ballot box of course.

You mean, of course, for the GOP to cave.

The Stupid Party would not, and didn’t vote for this kind of thing. They voted against using their power when they had it.

He’ll have to purge almost the entire government.

-- Elections are DONE. OVER. What remains is an illusion of choice to placate you. --

That's been the case at least since GHWB.

Not like what has been put in place after 2008. This is different. This is SOVIET - not simple Ruling Class patronage cronyism.

Voting is NOT going to do a damned thing except create an illusion We The People actually have a voice in selecting national leaders.

*Revolt is coming.*

They should research what happened to a certain king who thought he could rule with an iron fist.

Just keep pushing us and they will find out.

At this stage of the MarxoFascist coup - pushing for a reaction IS NECESSARY to implement their next step: iron fisted despotic rule by force.

All Marxist regimes require bloodshed and a 'threat' to the state to enable their next phase of eradication of political enemies.

After demonizing their political opposition, and creating misery so as to blame their enemies - violence and forcing that issue is absolutely necessary to create the justification for what they are going to do to us next.

What did you people think arming DHS was for?

On the flip side of that - the more time the MarxoFascists have to entrench themselves, the greater the genocide is going to be.

And when I say genocide - most of you are going to shake your heads and dismiss the warning.

But I have the unwavering history of this brand of Leftist ideology as a testament to what is about to happen to us.

Criminalization, purge and elimination are coming.

The Constitution is dead in practicality by those ruling us.

Get that through your heads.

Imagine that the Soviet's parachuted into D.C. and took over all the key leadership positions in the country and are imposing Soviet rule on us via the positions they have taken over. Imagine that and you will have a more accurate idea of what has happened to us and is about to happen to us.

If the 60% is such an important item, it should be added to the Constitution.

My post from another thread.

All these actions are by design to move us to a
democrat state not a representative republic.
50+1 is straight democracy the ruin of free men
all through history.

Our founders set this up because they knew history!
They even knew democrats, but they didn’t envision
a time when Americans would put up with their thievery
and be afraid to use the tools that were set up to
safeguard our freedom.

Republicans, I’m talking to you.

“The rules change only applied to certain Judicial appointments”

Doesn’t matter. Republicans should start screaming. “certain?” you mean for political expediency while Americans cannot have health coverage because of political expediency?

They can win on this issue. Just like the rats wanted an up or down on the budget, Republicans should now want an up or down on Obamacare, and Reid just set the precedent for it.

Change the rules and allow the up or down vote.

"Just in time as the GOP retakes the Senate in 2014. You’ll live to regret this Harry."

Senate Majority Leader Lee should put all of the 'Rat Senators' offices in the admin building of the coal plant that provides power to the Capitol building.

Fine. Glad it happened. Now the DemoCommunists no longer have this extortion threat to hand over the heads of conservatives when they can’t get their way.

An astute student of history you are.
It is all there but most don’t realize it.
Reid would never have done this if they thought
anyone else would EVER come to power.
First step, overcome the opposition.
Next step, remove the opposition.

Never thought I’d live to see it here.

I think many of you are fearing one thing (Dems trying to take total control) while completely ignoring the much more realistic one - they are desperately trying to set up some kind of relevancy for the future (which is also why Immigration is so important to them)

Look at the political map as it stands. Now look at trends and polls in the Mid-West.

Dems are on the verge of losing control of the Mid-West/Lake States just like they lost the South in the 90s. They know this is going to happen, and when it does, it might be 20+ years before they can take the House or Senate again (hence Immigration needed to try and retake some ground in the South in their minds - they don’t want to be on the losing side of the coin like Republicans were for so long leading up till the 90s)

These are not the first shots of a communist regime, these are the final shots of a Libral one.

The dream is almost over for them. Everywhere you look Liberalism is failing, Governments are collapsing or turning power over to the private market, and Liberal ideas are being pushed out of the majority of the country to the point where they will only have a stronghold on the two coasts.

This is to try and get enough judges stacked in to at least keep Liberalism alive in the courts while it disappears otherwise (Dems might still get the Presidency from time to time, but Congress is likely a pipe-dream in the future)

Well, it’s not as though the leadership of GOP will protest. Shoot, I bet many of them go along with it happily.

Obama has had 211 Article III judicial appointments confirmed by the Senate and the change today will effect 53 judicial nominees who are currently awaiting confirmation.
These are lifetime appointments to the federal bench.
