Moreover, we are now “hearing” waaaaay too many times the reason for the stop is “somebody reported blah, blah...” There better dam well be a record of it. The is simply pretense to harassment.

A lot of the "Open Carry" guys are idiots.

Case in point:

You use this excuse repeatedly that is was all due to a call about the guy. You have no proof of that, only the cops words.

"I live in a rural area, and I can tell you that not EVERYONE in my area recognizes me. Does that mean I lose all of my constitutional rights?"

Yep. All it takes is one rabid gun hater with a cellphone to get you SWATed. And they lie...

He had his .45 concealed.

Kinda hard to conceal a long gun unless you’re wearing a trench coat.

cop says " we are except from the law". that was enough for me.

TX is becoming worse than California.

"What would any of us do in his situation if we were dispatched to some remote road looking for two males, at least one of them is heavily armed?"

This isn't "any of us". This is a "supposedly" highly-trained officer of the law, who "should" know that it is perfectly legal to carry a long gun openly in Texas. Your excuse that he was responding to a call is BS. The situation could and should have been resolved simply by observing and asking a couple of questions. The JBT escalated and exacerbated the confrontation by grabbing the gun. Said action was totally out of line.

Probably working to "judge's instructions".

"All common in rural areas but I guess you've never been in a rural area which explains why you didn't know that."

I lived in "deep country" in Texas neighbor state of Louisiana for a large chunk of my life, and "thieves and trespassers" were NOT "all common", and people walking along a rural road with a long gun WAS totally commonplace.

"Item B" was the reason for "Item A".

Even idiots have civil rights. And I cheer the Open Carry movement for moving to recover what the left is trying to make "socially unacceptable".

If you don’t assert your rights, you don’t have ‘em. If you can’t open carry out of fear that a cop will take offence, then you can’t open carry, no matter what the law says.

You assume whatever it takes to make your assumed points. There’s no reason to assume violence on his part. Rustlers, on foot, walking down the road? Were the rustled cattle in their back pockets??

The cop profiled the guy because he was dressed like a nut and carrying a military style rifle.

Dress like a fool and act like a fool, and cops (and people) will treat you like a fool.

Then he should no longer be a cop. If he’s that big of a pussy he shouldn’t have a badge.

Wanting to go home safe and sound at the end of the work day doesn't mean you're a pussy, it means you're sane.

All common in rural areas but I guess you've never been in a rural area which explains why you didn't know that.

Do you have information about any reports of rustlers, thieves or trespassers that day, in that area?

Vehicles do break down occasionally.

Where in this story is there information about a vehicle that broke down?

It's a rural area of Texas.

So? Where in the story is any report of any cattle being rustled?

Believe it or not, theft is common in rural areas.

So? Were there any reports of theft?

They weren't carrying a banner stating they were on a 10 mile hike.

When asked, they stated they were hiking. Do you have information that shows they were doing anything but hiking?

Do you have any information that they committed a crime, or that a crime was committed in the area?

I'm thinking that "one person" didn't recognize him and called the police. I live in a rural area, and I can tell you that not EVERYONE in my area recognizes me. Does that mean I lose all of my constitutional rights?

C.J. Grisham called into the morning show on KLBJ today when this subject was being discussed. His family has been farming several hundred acres for four generations. He and his 15 yr old son were doing some hiking for the son's scout Merit Badge.

He said he had never seen a Temple PD cruiser on that rural road before. Whoever called in, used the non emergency number, not 9/11. It was on the road leading to the ranch house and the LEO had to have had a tip where he and his son were walking.

Explain to me how he was dressed like a nut. Maybe you mean the red bandana under the back of his hat? I am fair complected and use a bandana like that whenever UV is high.

He was physically docile while verbally defending his rights. The cop was totally off base, manhandling the citizen as if he were property.

As for you, wipe your chin, the jackboot polish left stains.

"...probably fed up with rustlers, thieves and trespassers..."

I suspect that this statement is a very large strawman.

Is there any evidence of such going on? If not, then it is of absolutely no consequence in this matter or in this discussion.

The LEO handled this poorly, the citizen responded poorly...but I don't know that under the current climate of oppression that I can blame him (the citizen) for his response either.

"Dressed like a nut..."

So tell me, how does a non-"nut" dress so that one is not accosted by an overzealous LEO?

I wear my old BDUs and sometimes my fieldjacket depending on what I'm doing because they still fit, they're comfortable and practical. I guess I'm dressing like a "nut"?
