House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was furious with Speaker John Boehner a week ago over immigration reform but now she says shed be open to a piecemeal approach if thats what the Ohio Republican wants to do.
We have always said on that score that the speaker is the speaker, and any way he wants to bring the bill to the floor, in pieces or in big chunks or whatever it is, we just want to see legislation come to the floor so that Congress can act upon that legislation, the House can, and send it to the conference table with the Senate, the California Democrat said Thursday, The Washington Times reported.

Yeah, now that she knows Reid is still changing rules and they can get whatever they want through with 51 votes.
Boehner should refuse to consider any legislation until filibuster is reinstated.
“Come into my parlor” said the spider to the fly. I know you’re dumb, John, but are you this dumb?
Yep. There was a time not so long ago when Boehner said something like that when the Rats were threatening the nuclear option.
Yes, he is.
Here is why: any law that passes, ANY law that passes...can now (and WILL NOW) be unilaterally re-written by judges that Obamugabe will appoint.
The rubber stamp Senate, now that the rules have changed on protecting minority rights via the filibuster, will now allow the Clown to put in anyone he likes into federal judgeships.
Lawsuits filed by radicals regarding the law will be carefully carried to these “judges” or bureaucratic lackeys of the left and the law will effectively be changed.
Team Valerie has already indicated it is willing to ignore the written law—so anything passed will be ignored at their convenience.
Just enforce the rules already.
I don’t know why Obama doesn’t just issue an executive order making all illegals citizens. Something is fishy.
You cannot negotiate with communists.
I agree. The House should refuse to consider any legislation as retaliation for the Senate invoking the nuclear option.
Obama and Democrats are bullies. We need to fight back against them using whatever House procedures can be used.
They have shown they don’t give a blank about ongoing rules of the Senate. So why should the GOP give a blank about trying to reach across the aisle and bi partisan cooperation or any of that?
The Democrats pulled the trigger on this, so they should have to live with consequences. Will the House impose any consequences is the question.
Dems are trying the say the phrase ‘immigration reform’ over and over as often as possible to change the subject to that.
Ask Pelosi if she would vote for a conference bill that has no path to citizenship in it, that is the million $ question.
She will reply ‘Hell NO’
I’m for comprehensive reform including some citizenship. Base it on eliminating “new” illegal immigrants. Instead of having things that happen in 5 or 13 yeas, have them happen “AFTER 5 or 10 years of limited increases”. For example
* Anyone who’s been here for 10 years or was brought here as a minor can be a legal guest worker AFTER 5 consecutive years of less than 50,000 new illegals.
* Guest worker passes will be revoked and the 5 year clock starts over if any 12 month period goes over 50,000 new illegals.
* Illegals brought here as a minor before 2013 are eligible for citizenship AFTER 10 consecutive years of under 30,000 new illegals.
Pass those and democrats will be helping to build the fence and improve border security. And illegals currently in the country will be doing whatever they can to make sure no new ones come in.
Will democrats argue against a bill that gives citizenship in 10 years when they’ve already said a 13 year wait is acceptable?
The GOP is being pressured by their corporate paymasters to pass immigration reform, especially doubling the guest worker program and almost tripling legal immigration. These were part of the Gang of 8 bill. I suspect and fear that the GOPe will pass something this session prior to the midterms. It will set off a firestorm of protests among conservatives and dampen turnout in 2014. It will force GOP congressmen to go on record for these phony reforms, which will hurt the American worker by taking away jobs and depressing wages. The GOP is not called the Stupid Party for nothing.
Recall a post here about Issa proposing two house bills:
1) Pure enforcement
2) Visas for immigrants with high tech skills
Nothing looking like amnesty.
There is not much that Dems can do with those.
Boehner (or Ryan) taking just those two to conference and coming back with completely different bills (amnesty for illegals) and putting them up for Dem votes strikes me as near zero Chance, but I know its a popular conspiracy theory here.
You are right about Dems see it as a wedge issue, but few in house GOP want to give Obama anything now.
Are you joking? Any immigration bill coming out of the House will be sent to the Senate for amendment and a vote. They will then send it to conference, where it will resemble the Gang of 8 bill. This is the strategy developed by the GOPe to create a Trojan Horse for the Senate.
CONGRESSWOMAN BACHMANN: ...Everyone is going to help Obama achieve his number one political agenda item, which is to bring in tens of millions of new voters to support his agenda. Why in the world any self respecting Republican would want to get behind this effort is beyond me, but it seems like this is what they want to do. Their first worry is not border security. The Senate bill was a fake border security bill. We were betrayed and lied to by the Republicans in the Senate. So we dont have a border security bill. And the way that you pass a bill is youve got to get a bill through the Senate, a bill through the House and on the presidents desk. Well, two out of the three are effectively done. We know that the president will sign a bill that has amnesty in it. The Senate already passed it. Now its up to the House. So what is about to happen to the House is that were going to get what I call a Trojan horse. It will be a bill that will sound great, it will be all about border security, and who couldnt get behind that? But if that bill passes with the help of conservatives out of the House, it goes to whats called a conference committee. Because the bill wont be the same as the bill that came out of the Senate. Thats where the politicians get together behind closed doors and they figure out one compromised bill that goes back to the chamber. Well, the one must have for President Obama is legalization, and legalization equals amnesty, which equals citizenship, which equals tens of millions of new voters that will vote to forever cement in place his progressive agenda. This is where the whole thing breaks down. So we have not had one minute of discussion for the whole Republican conference in the House.
As one who lobbies on the Hill on immigration issues, I can tell you that conservative Congressmen like Steve King, Lou Barletta, Michelle Bachmann, et. al. don't want any immigration bill out of the House for the reasons indicated above.
Boehner (or Ryan) taking just those two to conference and coming back with completely different bills (amnesty for illegals) and putting them up for Dem votes strikes me as near zero Chance, but I know its a popular conspiracy theory here.
It depends on how you define amnesty. Any legislation that allows the lawbreakers to stay and work here legally, the object of their crime, is amnesty. Citizenship is just the cherry on top. I can see the Dems agreeing to a blanket legalization with citizenship being discussed later. Boehner, Ryan, Cantor, Goodlatte, and Pete Sessions among others will say that this is not amnesty. Obama will say he is willing to compromise, but citizenship will have to be discussed as some point down the road. It is a scam.
You are right about Dems see it as a wedge issue, but few in house GOP want to give Obama anything now.
I think you are greatly underestimating the tremendous pressure being put on the Reps by their corporate donors. There is a reason why about 100 of them flew into DC several weeks ago to put pressure on the GOP leadership. They would not have wasted their time if they did not think that something will come of it.
The big prize for the GOP is the doubling of the guest worker program. They will use amnesty (legalization of status) as a bargaining chip to satisfy their corporate paymasters, especially with midterms looming in less than a year.
FYI: The Gang of 8 bill was never submitted to the House. If it had been, it would have been blue-slipped and sent back to the Senate for revision because it contains appropriation and revenue language that must originate in the House.
Not joking. The only way a immigration bill will become law this congress is if it gets majority house GOP support, which would make Dems oppose it most likely.
You see a immigration bill passed by Reid getting that?I dont. Reid will only accept citizenship,.
Dems wont even go for a bill that has guest worker with no citizenship, it be like asking GOP to vote for Obamacare.
'Bachmann says...' ??? She's decided to not even try to get reelected again, I assume she will show up as a FNC contributor or a AM show host.
If Boehner brings the bill to the floor, it doesn't need anywhere near a majority of Reps to support it. They only need 25 to 30 Reps to support the amnesty bill. There are at least that many Reps who would vote for it. Boehner has done this before on several bills using a combination of the Dems plus a few Reps to pass it. Boehner, Cantor, Ryan, Goodlatte, Pete Sessions, and other leaders want to pass an immigration bill. The RNC wants an immigration bill to pass.
You see a immigration bill passed by Reid getting that?I dont. Reid will only accept citizenship,.
Reid and the Dems will pass a legalization bill that will lead to citizenship. There will be all kinds of propaganda to fool the low information voters on what is happening. And you will have the Rubios and Ryans claiming that this is not an amnesty.
Dems wont even go for a bill that has guest worker with no citizenship, it be like asking GOP to vote for Obamacare.
You are confusing guest workers (temporary work visas) with legal permanent immigrant visas. They are two distinct programs. The Dems and some Reps want to legalize the status of 11 to 20 million lawbreakers by issuing them green cards, which will then lead to citizenship. The Gang of 8 bill also increases legal immigration to 33 million over the next 10 years compared to the decade ending in 2010 with 13.9 million legal immigrants. That decade was the highest in American history.
Bachmann says...' ??? She's decided to not even try to get reelected again, I assume she will show up as a FNC contributor or a AM show host.
What's your point? Are you trying to invalidate the substance of what she said because she is not running again? Steve King, Lou Barletta and many other Tea Party Reps have said the same thing.
but he wont without GOP majority support. So amnesty will die.
I find it truly ironic that Bohner was certain to bring a Senate CR to the floor and pass it with Pelosi votes, yet the delusional fantasy by many here was “Just keep those phone calls up and it wont happen’, when it was absolutely sure to happen.
But here is a rare case where he vowed to not do what you claim he will, yet the *conventional*wisdom* seems to be the exact opposite of what he will do once again.
He's not going to do it. Its not a government shutdown.
They already did and its dead in the House, and another one would be too.
illegal immigration is about as popular as obamacare .
