Kentucky U.S Senate candidate Matt Bevin beat incumbent Mitch McConnell in a straw poll conducted by the Boone County Republican Party.
The unscientific survey was held at the group's gala on Thursday which featured libertarian speaker Judge Andrew Napolitano among others. Of the approximately 425 people who participated, Bevin won 85 percent compared to just 13 percent favoring McConnell.
Boone County GOP Chairman Rick Brueggermann says it is unclear if any solid prediction can be drawn from the results ahead of the May primary next year, but that members were eager to participate.
"It's not random sampling, but it is sampling of those who wanted to come to the event. We had a full house so there was a lot of excitement. As far as predictions, I dont know how indicative it will be of future results," he says. "But certainly it was a surprising result that it was that weighted."

But McConnell is such a nice guy. He wants to be kind to Democrats, and reinstate the super majority rule as soon as Republicans regain the Senate. What a peach he is!
That 13 percent is “in charge” in Boone County, one can surmise.
Boone County Kentucky is suburban Cincinnati, about 100,000 people. Not a make or break place.
Boone County is a vital part of any GOP turnout and has the fourth highest number of registered Republican voters the state.
McConnell was pounding Bevin pretty hard, in his ads, for a while. (I'm in W. KY a good part of the time.) Haven't seen many ads either way, recently. I wish KY could find a better candidate than Bevin. He's good on most issues, but he has some other vulnerabilities. If I was voting there, my decision might turn on whether or not I thought the US Senate was going to be "close" in 2014, and "can Bevin win the general?" Losing that seat could be disastrous.
It might be even bigger from the money angle.
Just make sure he is vetted first and foremost.
“If he had a shred of honor, McConnell would announce soon that he will not run for re-election.”
Ditto for Thad Cochran from MS
One of these days, the "indications" will be matched at the polls.
Then I'll consider a bit of praise for the selfish, greedy, I-got-mine-so F-U... voters that make up America.
McConnell's going at him with a flamethrower so I think we'll know as much about Bevin as can be known.
