Abject Surrender by the United States
The Weekly Standard ^ | November 24, 2013 | John Bolton

Posted on 11/24/2013 8:07:54 AM PST by yoe

Negotiations for an “interim” arrangement over Iran’s nuclear weapons program finally succeeded this past weekend, as Security Council foreign ministers (plus Germany) flew to Geneva to meet their Iranian counterpart. After raising expectations of a deal by first convening on November 8-10, it would have been beyond humiliating to gather again without result. So agreement was struck despite solemn incantations earlier that “no deal is better than a bad deal.”

This interim agreement is badly skewed from America’s perspective. Iran retains its full capacity to enrich uranium, thus abandoning a decade of Western insistence and Security Council resolutions that Iran stop all uranium-enrichment activities. Allowing Iran to continue enriching, and despite modest (indeed, utterly inadequate) measures to prevent it from increasing its enriched-uranium stockpiles and its overall nuclear infrastructure, lays the predicate for Iran fully enjoying its “right” to enrichment in any “final” agreement. Indeed, the interim agreement itself acknowledges that a “comprehensive solution” will “involve a mutually defined enrichment program.” This is not, as the Obama administration leaked before the deal became public, a “compromise” on Iran’s claimed “right” to enrichment. This is abject surrender by the United States.

In exchange for superficial concessions, Iran achieved three critical breakthroughs. First, it bought time to continue all aspects of its nuclear-weapons program the agreement does not cover (centrifuge manufacturing and testing; weaponization research and fabrication; and its entire ballistic missile program). Indeed, given that the interim agreement contemplates periodic renewals, Iran may have gained all of the time it needs to achieve weaponization not of simply a handful of nuclear weapons, but of dozens or more.

America is weak because of weak leadership.

America is weak because we flock to the polls and elect weak leaders, and reject and ridicule strong leaders. Repeatedly. And only half of Americans or less care enough to vote at all.

Does the Obama administration think this deal will generate peace?

The Iranian negotiating team was mentored by the very successful North Korean negotiators, I suspect, if not directly then by example and easily observable history of what those negotiating with North Korea have demanded and what they actually accept - time after time - in an agreement.

This is something that has always intrigued me. The Jewish voters of America are the most Democrat voting constituency, the out-and-out kooky leftists of American culture and academia, the ones who paint conservative Americans as mouth-breathing troglodytes in the classroom and on the screen, are overwhelmingly Jewish yet US conservatives especially here in FreeRepublic kiss up to Israel like it was the last beacon of hope in the world.

I don’t get that, Israel is just one more country which, from time to time, might come in handy in a strategic alliance but which will at the end of the day do what suits it rather than what suits America as it is perfectly justified in doing.

What’s so goddamned special about Israel?

Go figure yourself. While the Jews denied Jesus' divinity, American fundamentalist Christians worship Israel because of some or other prophecy of Armageddon involving Israel, that's found in the Bible.

Does it? Pray tell.

I don’t understand how the US treats every other nation on planet earth in accordance with US interests but Israel is treated like it is some special American proxy.

The US owes Israel nothing in the same way it owes France nothing, Brazil nothing, Canada nothing or any other country but hey feel free to call me out if I fail to see why Israel gets a free pass.

Trust me Israelis aren’t too keen on US conservative Christians, just ask their co-religionists in the US.

You have a lot in common with Pat Buchanan.

Israel is the only democracy in the entire g-d’d Middle East and a firm U.S. ally, just for starters.

And when six million Arabs are surrounded by three hundred million screaming Jews, then I’ll sympathize with the Arabs.

And don’t forget our Prez’s strange new respect for the Iranian nuclear mullahs. That’ll do us a lot of good.

Between the Israelis, and hundreds of millions of Islamic savages howling for their blood and ours, I’ll choose the civilized ones!

One can not be a real Christian (”born again”, “true Christian”, etc) and be a Democrat, IMO.

Unless terminally and willfully stupid or totally brainwashed.

Anyway, we can rejoice that President Chamb..er, Obama has now “bought peace in our time.”

(those who do not learn from history.....repeat, repeat,...)

I’m not a practicing christian or have any hope of being “born again”, but I know enough that Obama is evil. He is protected by evil and surrounded by minions who have fallen to his cult-o-personality.
