Ha ha ha ha. I’ve experienced some of their “behaviour detection”. I’m going through the line and the TSA guy looks me in the eye and tells me my ticket is invalid. He watches me closely. Since I have not shown him my “ticket” which is at this point a boarding pass, I just say OK and proceed. I guess that was the correct thing to do since I got on the plane. I’ve also had them wave me toward the naked scanner then wave me off, then back, while looking at my eyes (pupil response, maybe?).

Imagine if the federal government actually gets some tech that allows them to determine intent- to a high degree of confidence. Some administrations would deploy that in critical voting precincts!

It's not a complete loss. After all, as long as they keep busy at the checkpoints feeling up passengers or gaping at the nudie scanners, they're on the ground not in the air.

Maybe they would have if they were not trained to suspect older white Granny and instead were looking at the bearded Mid East looking young men wearing Nike’s and golf shirts in winter.

Once they are on the federal payroll they are protected by more administrative laws than we would care to think about. They also now qualify for 6 weeks of paid "administrative duty" and 60 days of time to decompress after they were wrongly questioned, doubted, or had to prove they were actually American citizens.

In short a union protects them now so they are untouchable.

Obviously, the mere presence of highly trained and professional TS agents has scared 100% of the potential terrorists away.

Behavior detection is a subtle skill. It is quite easy for an amateur to screw it up. It is also easy for an overly aggressive personality to amp up a situation instead of diffusing it.

You aren't going to get that out of the average TSA officer.
