I wont be the reason some poor shmuck has to work that day.
Not being a 'poor schmuck' and intending to avoid becoming one would be a reason to work (often with enhanced payment) on some cultists' special days.......it's not one world.

I’ll go you one better. I don’t even shop on the Friday after Thanksgiving. I dislike that term ‘Black Friday’. There is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY I WILL EVER SHOP ON THANKSGIVING.

I remember the same. A group of us teens were wandering the neighborhood for awhile on a New Year’s day back in the 80’s and I remember it being very quiet as the only store open in town was the Arab-run corner convenience store. Course we didn’t have the 24-hour Meijer or Walmart back then.

Hmm. Even if you aren’t religious there is nothing wrong in giving “thanks” for any goodness in your life. Can one only be thankful and observe a thankfulness Holiday if one believes in God?

Wow, the end may be sooner then. Of course it is KMart and nobody goes there anymore so they might not count.

Thank you! We saw it coming a mile away and planned accordingly. We even hired ‘consultants’ who have been worth their weight in gold...to get Upper Management to LISTEN TO US down here on theFront Lines! :)

The issue is relative advantage. If some retailers are open and not others (at least of the same sort), the retailers open on the holiday, itself, will gain a sales advantage over those who aren't open. Aha. Yeah, that makes more sense of it, thank you.
