Gun-Control Supporters Say Momentum Quietly Building to Get a Bill Through
PJ Media ^ | 11/28/2013 | Bill Straub

Congressional gun-control advocates are preparing to take another run at expanding background checks on those looking to purchase firearms.

The legislation pending in the House requires that background checks on gun purchasers be required at gun shows and in similar settings. Currently, only transactions involving federally licensed firearms dealers require a background check.

A Senate bill requiring instant background checks for almost all sales through the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System, which also prohibited firearms listings on unlicensed websites, fell six votes shy of the 60 needed to break a filibuster in April. But proponents maintain the culture is quickly changing and that support for additional firearms restrictions is growing in both the public and on Capitol Hill.

Think hairy screeds rules change won't matter? Stay vigilant my FRiends. No point in waiting to start letting your senators know where you stand. And your reps as well. The haters are once again cranking up the anti-freedom generators. "If you like your .357, you can keep your .357. Period. Nobody is gonna take that away. Period." So speaketh the "lyin' king".

“A Senate bill”

No surprise here, but there is no way the House will entertain such a bill. Now, that does not mean we should be lulled into complacency.

Yes, this must be stopped.

Glad we have Senator Cruz from Texas who will be strongly against any gun grabber bill—maybe he will inspire others to vote against it.

LOL! The one shadowy cloud over this whole mess is of course, the “lyin’ king”. Despite his claims that he “can’t just go around congress”, doesn’t mean he won’t. “Constitution? We don’t need no steenkin’ constitution.”

We should roll back the existing background checks. The check, if any, should be on the person and should only show that the person is eligible to purchase a firearm (if we even keep that much of a check). The check should not produce a record on whether the individual purchased a firearm or even a record of whose eligibility was checked.

No “background check” should ever include a weapon serial number or even the type of weapon. That is a huge overreach, well beyond the scope of appropriate government intrusion into a fundamental God-given and constitutionally protected right.

To one degree or another, registration has lead to confiscation everywhere it’s been tried, but we’re supposed to believe that won’t happen in the USA.

Openly treasonous oath breaking by elected officials who have sworn a sacred oath!

... and there is only one way to stop this activity. Maybe two, but that is a stretch.

Frankly Scarlett, I haven’t seen it, but it is almost time to be showing the next picture in the series to get some peoples attention.

This is already happening on the state level. In my red state all gun transactions have to go through an FFL holder. It is universally ignored and unenforceable but still...

No worries. The RINOs in the RINO Party like McCommie and McGramsty will see it passes. They are on the side of evil you know.

How about background checks on anyone running for public office, including the presidency.

Time to also expand focus beyond “gun control,” and pay attention to what's happening to ammunition. The government's ban on lead in hunting ammo in certain areas, and EPA’s severe restrictions on primary lead production will have a direct and devastating impact. The potency of your ammo is dependent upon more than just the bullet. Lead used in the production of lead styphnate primers is being phased out due to lead’s toxicity. Accordingly, the shelf life of your ammo will drop from 50+ years, to a mere 5-6 years. Future plans may render ammo shelf life no better than your grocery store bananas. This is precisely why the government is buying up billions of rounds of ammo now, and storing it away.

Yup. The MAIGgots pushed for it in NV last session and it got passed but the Gov. vetoed it. No doubt it will be back next session. I WILL be better prepared next time around and will make my presence known at any hearing I can get in to. And, to mx. mark kelley-giffords. Stay your sorry ass in AZ. Better yet, move to D.C.

Any compromise on the part of the House Republicans, no matter how small, is a win for the democrats.

In case anyone has any doubts. The NICS has basically one purpose and that is to provide government with more and more “prohibited Persons” and not necessarily to make the world a safer place.

NICS is the center place for lists that question a persons need or desire for weapons purchase, and it isn’t “we the people” friendly.

What do you suppose makes the apes in the fascist federal government believe that only they have access to this ammo?
