Mayor Michael Bloomberg was in Bermuda on Sunday when a train derailed in the Bronx, the most recent time that the mayor has been out of town when a major incident in New York City occurred, a person familiar with the matter said.

Mr. Bloomberg was golfing in the early morning and did not leave the course until roughly 1 p.m, the person said. Bermuda is one hour ahead of New York time.

When asked Sunday night by reporters why he wasnt at the scene, Mr. Bloomberg replied, What can I do? Im not a professional firefighter or a police officer. Theres nothing I can do.

Bloomberg is correct. Leave it to the professionals, not the camera hungry politicians.
CC
I agree. Nothing he could add. He visited the families of injured passengers later.
He’s not running. Of course, the anti-fracking socialist Cuomo ran down there. He’s running again. County Exec of Westchester (Astorino) was also there; he just won reelection (but is considering a run against Cuomo).
De Blasio was not there, but he tweeted about it. Nice of him. Probably researching other ways of taking successful peoples’ money away from them.
De Blasio is the best thing to happen to NJ and Connecticut; they’ll be getting a bunch more high net worth people moving in. Ever wonder why Greenwich, CT is so expensive? Its the first town outside NYC and still easy commute to NYC and it just got more expensive.
He’s not a doctor, nutritionist, arms expert either but it never stopped him from verbal diarrhea.
He’s in Bermuda every weekend. He doesn’t need any more votes and the victims ended up in the Bronx, not Mahattan.
I’m no fan of Bloomberg, but what does it matter where he was? He couldn’t have been any help other than to lend moral support. He probably was in telephone contact, but really what could he have done? Not much............
The Mayor of NY is NOT the president. I can understand presidents staying away because their security can shut down an entire state. And it is traditional for the Mayor of NY to show up at major disasters.
Why so naïve about Bloomberg’s statement? He was caught - yet again - in Bermuda on the golf course. He’s covering his dwarfish ass.
Exactly!!!
Remember how fast he was to get to the west side of Manhattan after Capt. Sullenberger landed his plane in the Hudson? He was there before the passengers came ashore hogging the cameras at every turn.
“What Can I Do”?This From The”Nanny-Mayor”Of ALL TIME??????
Yes, but he’s always trying to help where he’s not helpful ...
I will use every opportunity to criticize this opportunist. He’s helped destroy our democratic system through his money, influence and corruption. He’s as dangerous as Soros.
Hizzhonor is a professional at nothing, except avoiding the job of real governance and meddling in everyone’s Constitutionally protected choices. I don’t think Mr. Mayor is going to enjoy Judgment Day, the one legal venue in which he will be judged with perfection.
Well the voters from New York are going from bad to worse with their moronic choice for the next mayor.
YOU ALL DESERVE WHATEVER YOU GET WITH NO PITY SO DON’T WHINE ABOUT YOUR SELECTION.
This is mostly self-serving deflection of criticism. He made sure he was visible around September 11th, 2001. He would have been in Bermuda pretty much every weekend, so just bad luck if something major happens on a weekend.
They are now saying the train was going 82mph when it crashed. Computer hack?
Where is Sharknado when you need it? Any chance they could rain on Bloombutt's mansion in da Bahamas?
