Cameras on Portland police cars are starting to collect information on local vehicle license plates, and can track up to 128,000 vehicle license plates per day.
That means that if authorities are investigating a murder and want to check on the whereabouts of a suspect's car three years ago, they can tap into a computer and perhaps find out where it was on a particular day. The system is already solving dozens of crimes. But some civil liberties advocates have reservations.

Find the perp, find there number, turn on the tracker, put on the cuffs.
I would like to see details on the dozens of crime it has helped solve.
Here, in British Columbia, police use these scanners; but, they have to delete the information collected every day — unless it is directly related to some case. (That policy was ordered by our “Privacy Commissioner”.)
The car is not the driver. No way to prove who was in the car.
There has to be a way to put an end to this Horse Shiite.
