The GOP might as well be dead
wash post ^ | 12/2/13 | j capehart

The Growth and Opportunity Project, aka “the autopsy,” was heralded as the Republican Party’s clear-eyed assessment of its 2012 presidential defeat. Autopsies are done on dead things, and ever since its March 2013 release, the GOP has done everything possible to stay dead.

The Republican Party is dead to African Americans. Not that there was much of pulse to begin with. Romney won 6 percent of the black vote to 93 percent for Obama, which isn’t surprising since Romney was looking to unseat the nation’s first black president. But it is also not surprising considering all of the voter suppression efforts around the country.

That the GOP ought to try to appeal to African Americans was recognized in the autopsy. “There are numerous outside groups that are studying the best way for the Republican Party to better reach African American voters,” the report pointed out. “The Republican Party should leverage the best practices identified by such organizations.” You employ that “best practices” nonsense when you and your staff haven’t a clue what to do. And it’s clear that if Michael Steele, the former chairman of the Republican National Committee who is black, were still head of the party, at least two egregious episodes would not have happened.

A tweet from the party’s official Twitter account on Sunday would not have celebrated Rosa Parks on the anniversary of her historic bus-boycott arrest by lauding “her role in ending racism.” Sure, the tweet was later corrected. But, come on, people. The lowest level black person at the RNC could have told them that the tweet as flat-out wrong and offensive. Not that anyone would have listened, assuming there are any low-level black people there.

What 93 vs 6. And that is not racial? What the hell do you call it. I call it black and black and to hell with policy. Voting black have no idea what they have done just because of black.

I believe there is hope. I know so many people who would vote for a conservative but just refuse to get politically involved. I believe that this issue is going to affect them to the point that they have no choice but to register and vote.

I've read this statement and I've read the tweet. I don't "get" why this is "offensive".

It isn't.

But the reaction to the tweet proves it wrong: Rosa Parks obviously failed to end racism.

The RNC's next tweet clarified:

Previous tweet should have read "Today we remember Rosa Parks' bold stand and her role in fighting to end racism."

Normalcy Bias infects most everyone.

Because to truly admit to oneself where we have arrived as a nation would short circuit most people who would simply prefer to hear smooth and easy things.

We saw our last ‘honest’ national election back in 2008.

When Obama said today ‘We aren’t going back” - there was a lot more to his intent than just health care.

This is their glorious People’s Revolution - and they are NOT going to allow us to go back to what we once were.

And the GOP Ruling Class wants a seat at the new table of power, or at minimum a stay from the camps and death panels. So they will be Judenrats for the regime in power.

Oh Pul-lease yourself.
Does anyone around here realize that we can’t go on calling people ‘illegal’ and then wonder why other people of the same nationality don’t vote for us? I mean you have people ranting about “the illegals” in one sentence and then wondering why hispanics are not voting Republican.
Same principle- the ONLY people who care, or ever did care, where Obama was born are on FR and/or write for Townhall. It’s not only a non issue but a counter productive one. If I *WERE* black I’d vote for Obama *just* to P.O. the people who gloatingly post any article they can find about groups of blacks beating up/raping or ripping off whites or society.

If Senator Cruz *were* found to have been born in such a way that he was constitionally ineligible to run for president would you, or nearly anyone on here give a rip?

The Democrat Party...a culture of lying, thievery, death and incompetence. Aided and abetted by their paid lackeys in the press like the Washington Post.

My own view is that I will automatically reject any candidate who panders to any ethnic group. Which I hope is not all Pubbie candidates in 2016.

"used"

Most blacks don't care. They know they're being used, but they know they'll get a lot less loot from Pubbies than they will from the Dems. There's always the hope that the next Dem prez will finally seize the total wealth of all the rich white people and give it to them. It hasn't happened yet, but they're always hoping.

You’re too generous...many blacks have no idea who Lincoln was. Or most other famous Americans, black or white. My older brother got into an argument with a black co-worker one time. The black worker asked my brother what white man ever did anything for black people. My brother said well, Lincoln freed the slaves. The man then replied “who was Lincoln?”

The Washington Post is already dead; it’s thrashing around in the tar pits. If the stupid Republicans would simply X out all the funding that delivers the WP to the federal fascist bureaucracy, the WP would drop dead within a week.

I mean that anyone who thinks they can even *use* the word ‘Illegals’ and not be thought of as racist is as delusional as people I know on FB who refer the President as “The Kenyan”, “OBummer”, “Zero” and/or post pictures of Obama in photoshopped Muslim/African garb (and yes, we all know there are pictures of him from Indonesia,- so what, there are pictures of Arnold Schwarzenegger in Austrian attire) and then proclaim they aren’t racist. It’s like people who begin a sentence, or a screed with “I’m not racist, but…”

Racism is not an objective label, it is like being ugly or smelling bad: if people *think* you are, then you are, no matter what YOU know you believe. Perception is reality every bit as much as it is in a job interview.

I would like constitutional conservatives to get elected. I do not care for the policies of the President or his cabinet, and I do not like a great deal of what he has done, but until people start realizing that the second one starts whining about “you’re playing the race card” one has lost the discussion and the vote, we ARE done. Claiming your opponent has ‘played the race card’ is like griping about a bad hand dealt in a poker game… tough; quite griping and do better next time.

Does this mean that anyone seeking office or associating with those seeking political office has to toe a delicate ‘politically correct’ (to the point of ridiculous) line? Yes. That is the way things are, anyone who doesn’t like it had best get used to losing elections.
