...“In that moment you become a whole new person,” the now 31-year-old says from the airlines’ offices in Enfield, just outside of Halifax. “You shut down and your survival instinct kicks in, and my thought was — how do we get all these people off the plane — and how do we survive this?

“The whole time you are in the situation, in the moment, you are acting, but you are also thinking: ‘I can’t believe this is happening.’....

On Thursday morning Nicole Foran will be presented with the Star of Courage — a medal recognizing acts of “conspicuous courage in circumstances of extreme peril” — by Governor-General David Johnston at a bravery awards ceremony at Rideau Hall in Ottawa. Ms. Foran’s former colleague and fellow flight attendant, Carolina Santizo Arriola, will receive the Medal of Bravery. Neither has ever spoken publicly about what happened that night on Flight 918....

After eight hours it was over. Police stormed the plane. Fray appeared surprised. It was the moment of distraction Ms. Foran had been waiting for.

“The gun was on me,” she says. “So I reached out and turned his hands toward him and popped the gun out of his hands. I just took it from him. You watch his body language, and he looked stunned, and I figured that I hadn’t been shot for eight hours and I wasn’t going to get myself shot then — so I took the gun.

“My family and friends laughed when I told them, because they couldn’t believe it — because I am a tiny person.”....

Not easy to act bravely under pressure, especially for the average civilian citizen.

Good on this gal. Now, when is the US going to award the Congressional Medal of Honor to the men of Flight 93?

Can the next R candidate for Pres pledge to do that?

Had this been an American carrier, she would have been taken to trial were her union would abandon her... and would have been immediately dismissed.

"Congressional Medal of Honor"

There is no such thing. The highest military honor is the Medal of Honor. Period. Please first learn the subject before writing about it.

I believe there is such a thing as the Congressional Medal of Honor. See...

Medal of Honor ... or the Congressional Medal of Honor

John: You are correct about most everything else so I am quite surprised that this one slipped by you. I still quite strongly do not believe there is a military award with the official designation "Congressional Medal of Honor", not withstanding that the President awards it to the recipients on behalf of Congress.

I read each of your references and nowhere could I find a description by the government (including branches of the Service) that used that common, but inappropriate nomenclature. Perhaps that two well known and trusted organizations use the incorrect nomenclature in their names has perpetuated the mistake by so many folks for so long.
