The article claims he was “openly gay”... so how come the church didn’t know?

The real deal is that most people personally know someone who is gay. The ones I know do great hair, sing great, etc. When I was in high school everyone knew that the best English teacher was gay, but he was never fired, because he never approached any students sexually and did not flaunt his lifestyle. The thing is when someone acts on it then everything changes. The school had a choice to make, allow the children to be witness to his flaunting or face the criticism from those outside the school.

The school should be commended for firing him.

Perhaps because the Church generally doesn’t have faithful and devout members frequenting openly gay establishments.

In my single days, I shared a townhouse with several other guys.

One of them turned out to be gay, something I hadn’t picked up for 6 months. . .

Actually, the homo is the one claiming that the school "knew" that he was homosexual. Of course he's going to make this contention, because it bolsters his argument.
