PICKENS, SC (FOX Carolina) - An Upstate sheriff said in a Facebook post on Friday that he would not lower his flag for Nelson Mandela, even after an executive order from the president.

Pickens County Sheriff Rick Clark said in the post that he refused to lower the flag to half-staff after the death of the former South African president, who died on Thursday. Clark continued to say in the Facebook post that it should be lowered at the United States embassy in South Africa.

Clark said in the post, "Nelson Mandela did great things for his country and was a brave man but he was not an AMERICAN!!!"

This comes after President Obama's executive order to have all American flags lowered in remembrance of Mandela.

Clark did say in the post that the department's flag would be at half-staff on Friday for an officer who died in the Lowlands, and it would also be lowered on Saturday for Pearl Harbor Day.

Here is the sheriff's full post:

I usually don't post political items, but today is different. I received this notification today, "As a mark of respect for the memory of Nelson Mandela, the President orders that the flag of the United States be flown at half-staff effective immediately until sunset, December 9, 2013"

Nelson Mandela did great things for his country and was a brave man but he was not an AMERICAN!!! The flag should be lowered at our Embassy in S. Africa, but not here. Our flag is at half staff today for a Deputy in the low country who died going to help his fellow Deputy. He deserves the honor. I have ordered that the flag here at my office back up after tomorrow's mourning of Pearl Harbor Day!

Has this sheriff gotten a tongue-lashing yet from Loveable Lindsey Graham?

The people are sane, polite and have clarity of thought.

So why the liking for Ernest "Fritz" Hollings and Loveable Lindsey Graham for so long? Even ol' "Storm" Thurmond moved left as time passed, and he had skeletons too.

They never knew what Mandela was or did. Mitch McC of KY was an early Mandela booster too.

Be that as it may, I drove through Pickens earlier and plenty of places still had flags at half mast. Didn’t think to drive by the sheriffs office.

LOL! Good one.

Margaret Thatcher did a hell of a lot more for Britain and the United States than Nelson Mandela did for South Africa.

The best that can be said about Mandela is that he mellowed in his older age. So did George Wallace, but the left still can't forgive him for his publicity stunt in front of the school house door.

The only thing that I’m surprised about is why The Stain hasn’t already done that.
