N. Korea: Where Is Kim Jong-un? (not in Pyongyang)

Where Is Kim Jong-un?

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is apparently staying well away from Pyongyang in a country retreat after the ouster of eminence grise Jang Song-taek.

Kim was last seen in public at a military base in Ryanggang Province on Nov. 29. The official KCNA news agency reported that Kim toured the province on Nov. 30, but he has not been pictured since. Some North Korea watchers believe Kim is still lying low in Ryanggang Province, which is on the border with China.

KCNA reported on Dec. 1 that Kim sent a congratulatory message to Laos and encouraged workers on Dec. 5, but there were no official sightings.

Kim left Pyongyang at around the time that South Korean intelligence officials have pinpointed as the time when two of Jang's close confidants were publicly executed. Kim seems to have been accompanied by the head of his state security agency and other top officials.

Ri Yong-ha and Jang Soo-kil, who were public executed in November, "were both high-ranking officials in the Workers Party and it is highly likely that they were investigated for damaging the party by high-ranking members," said Chung Sung-jang at the Sejong Institute.

Chung said Ri was accused of abusing his authority, while Jang was found guilty of trying to organize a new faction and rejecting the system.

But sources said there were no signs of unrest in Pyongyang or elsewhere

N.Korea Confirms Ouster of Jang Song-taek

North Korea confirmed Monday morning that leader Kim Jong-un’s uncle Jang Song-taek, widely seen as the eminence grise of the regime, has been dismissed from all posts.

The official KCNA news agency said he challenged the country’s leadership and tried to organize his own faction.

“Jang pretended to uphold the party and leader but was engrossed in factional acts and dreaming different dreams… That was why the party eliminated Jang and purged his group, unable to remain an onlooker to their actions any longer and dealing telling blows at sectarian acts manifested within the party,” it said.

Korean Central Television broadcast documentary footage on Saturday that had been altered to remove any images of Jang. The film was a re-run featuring Kim Jong-un at a military base and has been aired on KCTV nine times since Oct. 7.

North Korea is a Communist monarchy.

The Kim family has had an absolute grip on the Communist Party and the country since its founding in 1945.

He is nervous about something. He has apparently called a lot of top cadres to Pyongyang soon. Many think they will be chastised or even purged.

Apparently Dear Uncle was putting his own little private police/army together.

When Dear Leader feels unsafe, people die.

How do they (the Kims) do it, I mean avoid a coo de tata? I’d like to know their secret for the time I conquer my own kingdom. No Soviet bloc country, not Russia, not China has been able to achieve this kind of continuity. (I think this newly post-Soviet bloc country is about to achieve it with Queen Hillary I, followed by Chelsea I, and then Caroline Kennedy’s you know, sonny boy, you know.)
