Edward Snowden to give evidence to EU parliament, says MEP
The Guardian ^ | 12/8/2013 | Philip Oltermann

The European parliament is lining up Edward Snowden to give evidence by video link this month, in spite of resistance by British Conservatives, a Green MEP has announced.

Jan Philipp Albrecht, a German Green MEP, said parliamentarians wanted Snowden to appear before the assembly's committee on civil liberties, justice and home affairs (LIBE).

Albrecht said it would represent a great success for the parliament's investigation into mass surveillance of EU citizens.

He said: "Half a year after the first publications from his collection of numerous NSA documents, the truth of which has not so far been refuted, there are still consequences as far as political responsibility is concerned.

The basic political will is there. Now we will need to see if we can get a formal majority for a hearing and hope Snowden can keep his promise to answer questions on the affair."

This has got to have some folks in Washington more than a little nonplussed.

If we’ve been sharing our data as we should then there’ll be no hearing.

If Obama’s incompetence has interfered with that sharing then there will be one. What a small-minded fool Obama is.

Great Leader knows nothing about this, and won’t until he watches it on CNN. That’s how he rolls.

If Germany does not arrest him the minute he deplanes, and extradites him immediately, then in the post Obama era there will have be some serious reconsideration of the US commitment to NATO.

The American taxpayer has spent over $4 trillion dollars since 1945 funding the defense of Europe. Europeans have been spared the expense of their own self defense. Germany and the German economy has been a prime beneficiary. They are supposed to be one of the closest allies of the United states, This man Snowden has betrayed the United States and damaged our security. There is a warrant for his arrest. If Germany allows him to step foot in Germany and does not execute that warrant, then in the final analysis, Germany is not much of an ally. It very well may be time for the American military commitment to Europe to be over,

If Germany does not arrest him the minute he deplanes [...]

He is not going anywhere. The questions and answers will be provided over a real time video link. This will not even tell anyone where he lives in Russia. He met with a German MP in some random hotel, for example.

Really tired of such comments. The NSA is doing its very best to collect information that will prevent a serious terrorist attack on the United States. The United States remains the prime target of terrorists worldwide. If the NSA were operating in 2000 the way it does today (may not have been technically possible), 9/11, the subsequent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, trillions in Federal debt and the Obama administration could have all been avoided. Snowden is a traitor and must be brought to justice and severely punished.

Even after 9/11 the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq could have been avoided.

The powers that be decided we needed a couple of wars that were unnecessary to the vast majority of citizens of the US, but somehow necessary for the powers that be.

What’s the worst possible action a foriegn country could do to USA? Impose socialism? Take away our religious freedoms? Bring millions of foriegn invaders here?

Trillions of dollars were wasted because that’s the nature of our corrupt government, not because they HAD to.

Like many other patriots, I celebrate every action Snowden does that harms the Washington elites.

Wow...you haven’t been paying attention much, the American government is not your friend, comrade. Snowden did the world a favor.

Greysard:".. The questions and answers will be provided over a real time video link. This will not even tell anyone where he lives in Russia."

EXACTLY !
Our Government , under "dear leader" ( from behind; "I didn't know .. ")sees him as a traitor !
while the rest of the world views him as a whistleblower .
Go figure , the sociopathic liar says he is one thing , and the rest of the world knows him to be another.
It must be the 'least untruthful answer' that can be offerred by NSA /Fienstein/ Clapper/ 'dear leader '.
They all lied to COngress and should be frogg-marched down Pennsylvania Ave. , along with Holder in the lead.

Agree completely. Snowden has done the world a service in exposing the treachery of the NSA and those that sponsor their rogue behaviour.
