Conservatives may pull support from Baker’s campaign

Social conservative activists are threatening to walk away from Republican gubernatorial candidate Charlie Baker after his running mate, former state representative Karyn E. Polito, reversed her position this week, endorsing gay marriage.

The Baker campaign, looking to placate social conservatives, said late Thursday that Polito considers same sex unions to be accepted law. But the campaign would not make Polito available to be interviewed about her position.

According to a GOP insider, in choosing Polito, Baker strategists insisted that she soften her opposition to gay marriage if she were to join the ticket. The compromise — which would blunt some of the criticisms that she was flip-flopping — was for Polito to state that gay marriage is settled law and that she would not do anything to undo it.

The issue quickly came to a head after Baker and Polito appeared at a Shrewsbury diner to announce their ticket on Tuesday. A Globe reporter then inquired of a Baker campaign aide about Polito's position on gay marriage. The aide, who did not want to be quoted, replied that Polito favored the current gay marriage law.

In an e-mail exchange, the Globe asked whether it would be fair to say she favored gay marriage, and the aide replied that it would. That exchange was reflected in a Globe article Wednesday.

That clear-cut declaration eliminated the carefully designed nuance and set off a firestorm within social conservative circles, where Polito has been very popular.

Baker has struggled to appease social conservatives before. During his 2010 campaign, he faced controversy after choosing Senate minority leader Richard Tisei – a gay, Republican who supports abortion rights – as his running mate.

***...Polito to state that gay marriage is settled law and that she would not do anything to undo it.***

I notice that ‘settled law’, aka, ‘law of the land’, applies to everything except the Constitution.

Social issues do matter and the homosexual agenda is incredibly corrosive to our culture, I say conservatives should pull their support.

How come not having gay marriage, which was the case for over 200 years, was never the settled law of the land?

It’s Massachusetts, what’s a Republican running for state office for anyway?

Maybe if the Libertarians would put down their bongs and run a candidate too...

She is going to “soften” her position?

How no one stands by principles any more? You want to have a finger-in-the-wind on your ticket?

Why in the world would a social conservative be stupid enough to support her?

Well isn't this campaign off to a good start! Charlie, your political career was over when you picked as your 2010 running mate a homosexual who fought to NOT let us vote on homo marriage AND backed a bill to let men in dresses be in public restrooms with little girls. I'll be voting for whoever runs against Baker and distances themselves from Polito...token comment however..Polito is quite hot.

I finally smartened up and refused to vote for pro-gay Gabriel Gomez,(after holding my nose and voting for Scott Brown even AFTER his vote to repeal DADT...and proclaiming in an ad he was proud of both that vote and his support of Planned Parenthood.....but that was an anti-Harry Reid vote...not a pro-Brown vote)

Looks like I'll be sitting-out another state election or writing in another candidate.

Conservatism is not from a socioeconomic position. So enough of the Blue Blood v Blue collar on it, please.

The constitution was not written with class warfare in mind. In fact it was written by educated people with theirs and the Peoples’ interests in mind.

Not a class envy deal at all, and there’s no room for such.

Massachusetts needs social conservatism so badly that it doesn’t know how to, successfully, achieve it. Many decades of “leftist only politics, everywhere in Massachusetts” has made the Massachusetts GOP nutty and “Democratic Party Light”, instead of, always, being a conservative party on all of the issues. Ditto, all other long-term “politically blue” areas of the U.S. and U.S. territories. Most of the rest of the world continues to be “stuck on leftist politics”, too. Hence, my tagline.

MORE bad news from the Bay State:

Massachusetts voters fail again!
Democrat Clark wins Mass. congressional race

http://hosted2.ap.org/wrko/afb5c11d61c140368f0a3bb63800228a/Article_2013-12-10-Massachusetts%20Congress/id-fdb6cdef293e486fbf82e8b550144909?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

According to Clark’s campaign literature that we’ve seen:

Says she’ll fight against the Republican “war on women.”

Is solidly pro-abortion. Funded by Emily’s List. Will fight for continued public funding for Planned Parenthood.

Will strongly support “LGBT rights.” Was endorsed by MassEquality.

Pro-gun control. Says she “will work to end the NRA’s stranglehold on Congress.”

In past elections, she’s also been endorsed by the ultra-left Democratic Socialists of America.

Baker is a leftist. Why vote for a phony Republican Socialist when you can elect an authentic Stalinist Democrat ?
