The deal is bad tactic.
But it may be a good strategy.
Without this deal, there will be another shutdown.
Shutdown hurts GOP more than the Rats in 2014 election.
Best thing going for GOP in 2014 is the Obamacare disaster.
GOP needs to win 6 or more seats in senate.
And keep the house by 10+ seats.
That will be very difficult with another shutdown.
First one must win elections.
Only then one’s agenda has a chance of success.
Losers in eletions have zero, zip, nada power to change anything.
Ask Romney, Mourdock, Akin, O’Donnell, Angle how much power do they now have to change any laws.
I think the phrase is
"Hold your nose and vote for it."
It's worked for the Democrats for years.
pissing off the conservative base of the GOP is a good strategy? I really doubt it.
Why? Isnt this really a false choice - either do the deal or we have a shutdown? Why cant the Republicans just offer up a clean CR for another year and let the Dems do what they will? They could accept it or choose to shut down the government. If they do shut down the government (not a certain thing), what makes anyone think that the public will react like they did in October before they realized that Cruz was right and Obama and the Dems lied to them? I think that the House RINOs that keep repeating this statement (Without this deal, there will be another shutdown) are just a bunch of Dems lite that do not have a spine and cant see that the world has changed considerably since O and the Dems were proven to be liars. Oh, and no amount of media propaganda will change the fact that real people have had real increases in their insurance and losses of coverage because of these lies. This is a time for offense, not prevent defense, in my book. Unfortunately the Rs lack real leadership.
Okay, I'll play. What agenda is being advanced here?
That logic is mind-numbingly stupid. The GOP has more leverage now than in years. The congressional poll shows people want to elect a GOP Congress by several points. If they’re going to cave into the other side now, when will they ever not cave in? Even when they have full power, they’ll still say, we don’t want to lose it to the Dems next year, so we’ll keep passing liberal bills so they can’t criticize us in the press. This is what Bush did, leftist lite, and why we’re in the mess we’re in now.
As long as the Dems hold one branch of government, they will always be able to shut it down. If the GOP is afraid of that, then they will constantly pass whatever the Dems want. The Dems may as well have full power if that’s the case. If the public is too stupid to think passing bad, liberal bills is better than shutting down the government, they get what they deserve. After Cruz was proven right, the public might be more open to listening to us next time.
Bottom line, our reps have to have the courage to lose their seats by doing the right thing and voting the right way. And if they want to run on fear, let them be afraid of getting their butts booted out in a primary. We don’t need to elect anyone who will vote for Democrat bills out of fear or for any reason. And I fail to see how voting for a Democrat bill “helps” the GOP win any elections. If there’s no difference between the GOP candidate and the Dem, they’ll look like another Romney and lose.
Shutdown hurts GOP more than the Rats in 2014 election.
Where’s your evidence for that?
No one but the left wing media paid any attention to the “shutdown” and us wonks on blogs.
The average dude out there didn’t have a clue. And the vast majority didn’t have anything effected.
It’s like when Dems attack a GOP president and lie about the economy. Interviews with individuals are usually, “I’m doing just fine but since I read the economy sucks I guess someone is suffering” and that kind of stupid thinking.
