Paul Ryan Takes a Step Toward House Speakership
National Journal ^ | 12/12/13 | Tim Alberta

Paul Ryan's presidential prospects may have dimmed this week, but his future on Capitol Hill has never looked brighter.

The budget compromise he struck with Sen. Patty Murray, which passed the House on a lopsided 332-94 vote Thursday, had conservative activists and outside groups howling. That might one day curb Republican enthusiasm for Paul Ryan the presidential candidate.

But inside the dome, overwhelming support for Paul Ryan the policymaker—even from those voting against his proposal—armed him with a major legislative victory and a reputation as a bipartisan consensus-builder. That means bigger things may be on the horizon.

"Paul did astonishingly well. He was at a profound disadvantage in those negotiations, and I think he did amazingly well," said Rep. Trent Franks, an Arizona Republican who ultimately opposed the agreement.

He’s a dirtbag - no doubt. He got his pants whipped off in the election because he was a miserable salesman for his product and now he’s trying to change the product line, since he can’t alter his personality.

I really can’t stand this guy anymore. He’s right up there with Linda Graham, Juan McCain, Conyers, Cantor, Boehner et al.

Defintely NOT an improvement.

Ryan is the next boy who has been groomed to Infiltrate all that is American and convert it to Ash. But the sheeple will never get it.

Could ANYONE guess how much the Vichy Republicans would grovel at the feet of their Democratic ideologues if FreeRepublic didn’t exist? With this capitulation of Ryan and Boehner we have truly entered a one party system

“Ryan would be a vast improvement over what we have to day”.

“Yeah, he has better control over his tear ducts. Otherwise, same old same old”.

^^^^^^ Exactly my take.

But then, I was not enamored w/ Ryan as the VP choice...so I’ve not exactly fallen off the Ryan wagon...as I was never on said wagon.

If the GOPe go for ‘immigration reform’...Katie bar the doors...that’s not going to end pretty for any of those guys/gals.

From Boehner to Ryan—out of the frying pan, into the fire.

A pox on both of these Big Government jerks.

Please...Even you don’t believe your drivel or you wouldn’t have added the last sentence. Free Republic in its latest iteration is a shadow of its former self. Most of the conservatives I encounter have never heard of Free Republic.

Ryan would be a vast improvement over what we have to day.

In what alternative universe would Paul Ryan be an improvement over the insufferable quisling appeaser who now runs the House?

Did you not notice that he just rolled over for Pelosi, Reid, and Obama? Geeeez......

I will say at least Ryan is a coherent sell out, as opposed
to bubble mouth Boehner.

Also, you bring up a good point, on Boehner Amnesty. Boehner taking the lead on Amnesty and then perhaps retire does relieves Ryan from having to lead on that battle, even if he will certainly vote for it. There is a small but real difference, I’m thinking.

Probably Jeb Hensarling. I don't know a lot about the guy, but he's been on the Hill for a long time now. Others have remarked here that he's little more than an establishment foot soldier.
