Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's re-election bid remains one of the closest in the country, as he leads his presumed Democratic opponent, Alison Lundergan Grimes, by just a single percentage point, according to a new poll.
The Republican Kentuckian has just a 31 percent job approval rating, marking him one of the most unpopular senators in the country, according to Democratic polling firm Public Policy Polling, in a survey first reported by Politico and released Tuesday.
McConnell leads Grimes 43 percent to 42 percent, with 15 percent of Kentucky voters undecided. A similar poll in October had Grimes ahead by 2 percentage points. Grimes' favorability matches McConnell's at 31 percent, but about one-third of voters are unsure of whether they approve of her, giving her potential room to grow. But most people have already formed their opinion of McConnell, with 61 percent disapproving and just 8 percent unsure.
McConnell's underfunded Republican primary opponent, Matt Bevin, would do similarly well against Grimes, according to the poll. That suggests McConnell is receiving base-level support that is to say, people who would never vote for Grimes but little more. Despite the fact that 64 percent of those surveyed had not formed an opinion of Bevin, he matches McConnell's general election support.
The poll did not ask Republicans who they preferred in the primary contest between the two men, but previous surveys have shown McConnell winning handily.
The poll surveyed 1,509 Kentucky voters between Dec. 12-15 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percent.
Yeah dumping Lugar for ObamaJoe apparently wasn’t a strong enough signal, LOL
Apparently NOT.
its a dem poll...so wait and see if its backed up...unless you have reasons for believing it

The poll did ask this question:
Q3 If the Republican candidates for Senate in
2014 were Mitch McConnell and Matt Bevin,
who would you vote for?
Mitch McConnell ........................................... 53%
Matt Bevin....................................................... 26%
Not sure .......................................................... 21%
I am. I remember when Jerry Brown was running for gov of California and a resident there was telling me he was going to vote for Brown because "Schwarzenegger really f----d up this state". See, RINOs get elected claiming to be conservative, then they govern as big liberals and people come to the conclusion that conservatism is the problem. If McConnell is going to continue to support democrat positions on everything, let a real democrat do it instead and let them at least take the blame.
I'm done voting for and supporting RINOs. Period.
The RepubliCONS.
His ass will be. It’s up to the primary voters as to if it’s a pub or rat that replaces him.
If you aren't above 50% conventional wisdom is your in trouble and he is 61% negative, which means 39% approve ( with some unsure etc ).
That ain't good, me thinks he is toast, politically....
I appreciate everyone’s efforts and goodwill towards getting Senator Mitch McConJob out of office. To answer some questions/concerns I have read on this thread: thus far, McConnell has two primary opponents (one good, Matt Bevin, and one perennial, Gurley Martin). There are also two Democrats running (the front runner, Secretary of State Alison Lundergan-Grimes, and a lesser known, professor Greg Leichty). And there is an independent candidate (Ed Marksberry) and a Libertarian (David Patterson) running.
