More than 1.3 million Americans will lose their unemployment benefits on December 28 as a budget deal proposal in Congress fails to extend the federal program.

The Emergency Unemployment Compensation Program is not included into the budget deal that would likely pass the Senate this week.

Senate Democrats have admitted that they would miss the deadline to extend the benefits and Senate Republicans have not paid attention to the issue at all.

I'm more unhappy that the military benefits have been cut under this so-called budget deal.

This is for extended benefits that have gone past the 26 week. I think they have extended them 3 or times in the past 5 years. My husband was laid off on November 1st but he is getting benefits but only up to 26 weeks.

They cut veteran’s benefits but let welfare to illegals continue.

Is this the deadline extended 4 or 5 time and is now so long that it is beneficial to not work? Is this the benefit that you are complaining of that is not being extended?

was unemployment benefits suppose to be a never ending pay check or an income to help them look for employment?

Congress robbed the retired Military and they will have to learn how to survive, so let those on never ending unemployment learn how to survive also..

don’t like it then VOTE THEM OUT...BOTH PARTIES.

RE :”1.3 million Americans to lose unemployment benefits,”

Why are Republicans so heartless to pass a budget that doesnt include this?

Underemployment, part time jobs, no jobs, with the mentally ill in every city standing on street corners arguing with telephone poles, as tens of millions of illegals choke off our social services, schools, hospitals, jobs....

Meanwhile, tens of hundreds of billions of U.S. tax dollars are being shipped to corrupt Mideastern countries and countries all over the planet in the form of foreign aid.

Those criminals running government should be removed from their positions as soon as possible.

what i find wrong, on several levels, is that this group of people kept getting extensions while pretty much everybody else got 26 weeks and then turned away... what is it that makes this group get special treatment???

I don’t think there is anything special about them. What’s special is the extra-special stupidity coming out of D.C and the state capitals

If you subsidize something (unemployment), you get more of it.

Unemployment benefits are essentially a mandatory insurance policy your employer and the employee are forced to pay on your behalf. You can’t opt out. So while you are employed this is in effect coming out of YOUR paycheck.

The correct way to handle unemployment is either:

- make the coverage optional so that the employer can pay more money up front to the employee.

- Pay out all benefits in one lump sum just like any other insurance settlement with a valid claim on a loss.

If paid in a lump sum most people would have incentive to find work immediately.

And I'm going to not get a billion dollars if Congress fails to include a billion dollars for me in the budget.
