WASHINGTON Former Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano will lead the U.S. delegation to the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics next year in Sochi, Russia. The White House says tennis champion Billie Jean King and U.S. Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul will join the opening ceremony delegation. So will figure skater Brian Boitano and presidential adviser Rob Nabors.
Deputy Secretary of State Bill Burns will lead the closing ceremony delegation. He will be joined by McFaul, Olympic medal-winners Bonnie Blair, a speed skater; Caitlin Cahow, an ice hockey player; and Eric Heiden, a speed skater.
King and Cahow are both openly gay athletes. Gay rights groups have urged the Obama administration to use the delegation selection to make a point about Russia's treatment of gays and lesbians.
"The U.S. Delegation to the Olympic Games represents the diversity that is the United States. All our delegation members are distinguished by their accomplishments in government service, civic activism, and sports. We are proud of each and every one of them and think they will serve as great ambassadors of the United States to the Olympic Games," the president said in a statement.

My dad was playing in local tennis tournaments at the time, so he watched the match even though he considered it nothing more than a circus. I knew nothing about the sport and didn't pay it much attention. When the match was was over, he said that if Riggs had actually intended to win, he'd have "wiped the floor with (King)."
I guess the right people made money, and the agenda advanced another notch per "the plan."

I must say I enjoy watching Putin make Obama look like a failure. Puts a smile on my face every time. I am sure Putin won’t take Obama’s insults lying down. I don’t care anything about the Olympics but this could get interesting.
Putin reads Obama like a cheap comic book. No doubt in my mind, Putin had his response to this prepared months ago, and it may be months until we see what it is...
Shouldn’t the best athletes be on the team? I don’t think it’s illegal to be gay in Russia, but it’s illegal to promote homosexuality to children. A lot of Americans would agree to that. This is obama being stupid. We have stupids running the country.
Russia should deny access of openly gay people to the games or their country.
I hope the Russians manage to lure some of the lower level homosexual Olympians to a set-up “gay orgy”, that they just could not resist, leaving the US area and going into the bad part of the city, which is off limits to Olympians.
The Russians are expert enough to make something appear irresistible to homosexual men. Discreetly offering muscle men and little boys, yet ending up with lots of photographs taken and the homosexual Olympians stewing in the drunk tank, as well as an official diplomatic protest by Russia.
