(Reuters) - The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits rose last week to the highest level in nearly nine months, casting a shadow on the labor market.

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits increased 10,000 to a seasonally adjusted 379,000, the Labor Department said on Thursday. That was the highest level since March and marked the second straight week that claims have risen.

Claims for the prior week were revised to show 1,000 more applications received than previously reported.

Economists polled by Reuters had expected first-time applications to fall to 334,000 last week.

“Amazon.com has their act together like never before. AmazonPrime 30-DAY FREE TRIAL with 2 day shipping..”

I’ve been doing Amazon Prime for 2 years. Truly incredible service with free shipping, and you can buy most anything. No need to go to a mall anymore and subject yourself to the knockout game or a random car jackiing.

I've been trying for 3 days to get a $1400.00 order to go through with Amazon to no avail. The say it's my card the bank says it's Amazon. Funny, my card worked just fine yesterday when I ordered online.

I say they ALL have problems. Frustrates the hell out of me!

It’s unusual to have problems as you describe. Perhaps it’s a credit rating, or exceeds your limit, or card security number issue or expiration date info???.. Go back and check your payment option section and edit your cc number, etc.. Good luck and Merry Christmas!

Reuters says, “the housing market is down, unemployment is up”, but “overall” the economy is doing great.

A clear violation of Lincoln’s dictum of “you can fool some of the people all the time, and all the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all the people all the time.”

The Leftwingers think they can fool all the people all the time. In this case I think the shine is off Obama and people are seeing that the emperor has no clothes.

379,000 x 4 weeks = over 1.5 million.

I recommend shopping at Target...NOT.

I am rather surprised that isn't a big story on FR. Something like 40 million credit card accounts were hacked?

Somebody is laughing "HO, Ho, HO!"

I wonder if the Target story puts pause in anyone considering signing up on healthcare.gov?

In Florida the stats would improve. December is the busiest month of the year in that state, and a bunch of temporary jobs need to be filled to accommodate all the visiting tourists. When I lived in Florida, if I needed work during December, I could usually find something for the short run. Unfortunately I’m in Kentucky now, with no prospects of working before January.

Thanks Reuters for NOT saying “unexpected” - a code phrase for anything bad that happens when a democrat’s President.

Same here. Did most of my shopping through Amazon. Very pleased with the results.

Mostly I do my shopping online, Amazon, ebay and craigslist. Groceries at Aldi’s, local grocery store and walmart. I stop at the bank periodically, the tellers spend more time standing around than actually waiting on customers. In the last three months 4 tellers have moved away.

The county I live in the UP of Michigan, has only 13000 people in it. unemployment up here is always around 9.8%. The number of people on welfare 8 DHS workers of 900 cases per worker 300 of each are disabled or elderly is staggering though. One guy claims 20% of the population is gainfully employed
