I can agree with that except that conservatives ARE Republicans, like it or not.

True, Conservatives are the only Republicans that really oppose gay marriage but I find their arguments against it, the key weapon in a country where elections are key, are also lacking too.

I recall a decade or two ago when so-cons like Robertson and Falwell were smart enough to separate behavior and actions from types of persons.

And what is the intellectual basis for treating gays as if they were a separate race or sex , protected class?
Except Scalia you ever hear this questioned

Republicans, the organized party, have made a clear decision not to fight the marriage fight. Without institutions, all we have is ad hoc activity.
