Each week, Chicago police Supt. Garry McCarthy shows off to the media all of the guns officers have collected off the streets in recent days.
Those guns are held indefinitely inside an expansive warehouse in a location undisclosed to the public. From the floor almost to the ceiling, row after row, shelf after shelf and bin after bin, are guns.
"We've recovered more than 6,500 guns so far in 2013, and every year for I don't know how long the Chicago Police Department has recovered more guns than any police department in the country," McCarthy said as he provided NBC Chicago a recent, exclusive peek inside the facility.

If their efforts were effective, the murder rate would be going down, but it isn’t. This is just window dressing for a failed government and police department. My guess is that despite the draconian gun laws, there are tens of thousands of guns in “the projects.”

Something that has a value. It’s quantifiable, tangible and has a measurable effect of at least some accretive value to the community.

Did you remove a certain amount of thos guns from violent criminals?

Was there any breakdown as to TYPE of weapon? There would be surprisingly few “assault” (read “scary-looking”) rifles, and a preponderance of pistols of various kinds, including some of crude home manufacture or cobbled-together from separate weapons, few of which were obtained through legal channels (stolen or smuggled into town), and only a very small quantity of which the owner was legally permitted to possess. The actual felony would have been committed, in practically every case, by a person who should not have had access to the weapon.
Look at Chicago in the ‘30’s when Capone and the Mob were basically running the place, and I think little has changed other then the names of the bosses. The Chicago way in use now seem to be the same methods used by the mob being inflicted on the entire U.S.

Interesting reading this thread. A lot of good statements and questions that are never asked by the “journalists.” Just one of these questions would stump that Mike Ditka lookalike.

Perhaps this is why they have so many shootings and killings. If they let everyone keep their guns the murder rate would go down.
