The politics of who watches Duck Dynasty: Show popular among Republicans and evangelical Christians
The Huntsville Times ^ | December 22, 2013 | Leada Gore

Anyone doubting the fervor of Duck Dynasty fans might want to talk to the folks at Cracker Barrel.

Faced with a backlash from customers, the restaurant chain announced Sunday it was returning Duck Dynasty merchandise to its shelves after pulling it due to comments by show star Phil Robertson about homosexuals. A&E, which broadcasts the show, previously announced Robertson was suspended indefinitely due to the comments, prompting his family to issue a statement supporting him and questioning the future of the mega-hit program.

The situation has led politicians such as Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal and former Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin to voice their support for Robertson and the situation could be a lightning rod in future political frays.

Who watches Duck Dynasty?

Data from Experian Marketing Services and reported by the Wall Street Journal shows Republicans and evangelical Christians are among Duck Dynasty's most reliable viewers.

Fourteen percent of those who identify as Republicans said they watched Duck Dynasty in the last month, according to the study. That's the same percentage of watchers who said they were Republicans and conservative evangelical Christians.

The number of Democrats who watched the show in the last four weeks was 10 percent. Thirteen percent of Independents said they'd seen the show in the previous month.

Republican conservative evangelical Christians could translate into a powerful voting bloc, according to the Journal.

"The suspension of Phil Robertson may fire up voters in those areas who feel they are under attack," they wrote. "If nothing else, the intense interest in the story and the viewer numbers suggest that this bit of niche pop culture may be an important part of mainstream politics for 2014."

It’s popular among Evangelical Christians, because they know what God says. The following is one such example in a Romans 1 ...

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.

17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,

19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.

20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,

21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

22 Professing to be wise, they became fools,

23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.

24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves,

25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature.

27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting;

29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers,

30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful;

32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.

THAT would certainly be “dynamite” to LGBT-types ... :-) ...

I’m sure they are “foaming at the mouth” at this part ...

For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness ...

Also, in reference to what someone else said about homosexuality being another sin - just like all the sins listed in the Bible ... I’ll have to point out that it’s QUITE UNIQUE in comparison to other sins. I said the following in another posting elsewhere ...

The unique thing about what God said in Romans 1 — is that this particular sin is actually a “judgement” from God in that He has them debasing themselves in such a way. THIS (what the LGBTs promote) is actually God’s judgement upon them in that they are to do these things to themselves. They, therefore, receive god’s judgement in the “here and now” for clearly rejecting what god has made clear to the,.

SO ... while these are all sins - fornication, adultery, thieving, drunkenness, slandering, swindling - and will not be allowed into Heaven ... none of these are, in and of themselves - a condition which God imposes upon people for their rejection of what God has made clear to them,

On the other hand — the LGBT lifestyle is a specific condition and judgement of God Himself - upon these people,

AND THEREFORE, God has put upon them the absolute worst of the worst sin possible in a human being - in order to thoroughly DEBASE them to the ultimate extent in THIS LIFE, in the HERE AND NOW and not upon “Judgement Day”.

LGBT-people are a “walking advertisement” of God thoroughly debasing someone to the maximum extent possible, in a human being. They are walking around with a “neon flashing sign” — saying — “Look at me! God has not even waited until Judgement Day to judge me!”

Never seen it, never will, but quite likely I’ll make an effort to buy one of the Robertson family’s fine “duck calling” products.

On FOX this morning, one of the hosts said that the show is a favorite of the Obama family.

Are they laughing at whitey?

The headline is a lie they tell themselves so they feel better. Most.of the people I know who watch, and I am not one, are not particularly religious or political. They’ re ordinary folks.

The closing dinner, complete with prayer, is the best advertisement for families since... ever.

I don't get A&E, but watched a couple of episodes when I was visiting my sister in NC - I didn't think it was very good, (I'd rather watch old Hee-Haw shows).
But I've never cared for any of the "Reality TV"-type shows - just not my cup of tea.
And I am an Evangelical Christian raied in the southern hunting/shooting culture.

The writer is woefully uneducated in demographics for missing the fact that DD’s biggest base are those who either get their mail at a PO Box in town or have to walk more than 50 yards to their mailbox.

There are a lot of democrats in that mix.

Why do they muddy the waters with sub-categories? This is about Liberals and Conservatives, period. I don't consider myself either an Evangelical or a Republican. I am a conservative and I watch Duck Dynasty. So my opinion wasn't (isn't) heard or reflected in the data.

This is how they "split us". Did they say "Democrats and atheists"? No, just Democrats. But in the other side it is "Republicans and Evangelicals" ( and Independents, and homophobes, and rednecks, and..). It is subtle but they are doing it, this is how they can prove the "split" among conservatives, they project Conservatives as multiple groups, when we are a single group called Conservatives and they are a single group called Liberals. Use those definitions and Liok again at the demographics. The battle lines of social warfare in the USA become amazingly clear and defined.

The funny thing about Cracker Barrel is that “Duck Dynasty” merchandise is sold by A&E. So when they banned it, they were actually attacking A&E, which was a good thing.

They were so quick to jump on, and then jump off, this "cause", I can't help but wonder about Cracker Barrel's orientation, political or otherwise.

I hope their food is better than their activism.

Of course, you know I didn’t type that from memory ... :-) ...

But I did know it was in the first chapter of Romans, and from that - and the wonderful site of Bible Study Tools - I was able to copy and paste it here.

Show Cracker Barrel your knee jerk reaction. These people are idiots and don’t deserve my further buisness.
Told them so.
