Pollard did not betray the country. Casper Weinberger betrayed Israel by not giving Israel information that should have gone to her anyway.

The Reagan administrations slavish devotion to the twists and turns of Saudia helped pave the way for 9/11. Reagan went into Lebanon to help the ruling Sunnis and then ran with tail between the legs after his new Muslim buddies blew up our marine barracks in Beruit. A young Osama bin Laden saw this act of craven cowardice and figured the U.S. would fold in case of a terrorist attack. And we certainly did as we twice elected a President who spoke of his Muslim faith.

But to hell with all of that, let's execute Pollard instead /sarcasm

The NCIS investigation into Pollard's dealings indicated that he was attempting to sell information to countries as disconnected from Israel's interests as South Africa and Pakistan.

Secondly, Pollard wasn't even an Israeli citizen at the time he was arrested, tried and convicted of espionage. He was born in Texas, raised in Indiana, and educated at Stanford University. He didn't even apply for Israeli citizenship until 1995, which was almost a decade after his guilty plea in his espionage case.

Israel spent years denying that Pollard was even working for him, until they finally admitted in 1998 that he was an Israeli spy.

The United States of America doesn't owe Jonathan Pollard a damn thing. That guy can rot in prison for the rest of life.

Pollard spied on his own country. What Weinberger did or did not do is irrelevant.
