Billionaire Harold Simmons died Saturday night at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas, says wife Annette. He was 82.
Annette Simmons tells our Alan Peppard that the East Texas native, who currently sits at No. 40 on Forbes’ list of the 400 wealthiest Americans, has been “very sick for the last two weeks,” and in Baylor’s intensive care unit for the last eight days. She did not reveal the specific cause of death.
“He’s had a hard time,” said Annette of her husband, namesake of the foundation that has dispensed hundreds of millions to local organizations.

I don’t think Richard Simmons would a Karl Rove donor, but maybe he’s in the closet.
I wonder if Harold was/is related to James P. Simmons who headed United Bank of AZ back in the 80’s?
I don’t know, but he did used to be a bank examiner for the FDIC, per the link.
That is why I questioned it and also because JPS was from Texas. He was a nice guy as I was up to his office many times.
I don’t find anything indicating they were related, but who knows.
Both were successful in accumulating wealth.
I, too, was unable to find information they were related.

In the late 1960s, he helped his brother Harold manage a series of investments. The brothers became widely known for their financial prowess with Harold’s 1969 purchase of Ward’s Cut-Rate Drug Co., which was sold to Jack Eckerd Corp. in 1972.
Glenn Simmons served as a director, vice chairman or chairman for the companies his brother invested in or owned, including Contran Corp., Valhi Inc., Keystone Consolidated Industries Inc., CompX Industries Inc., NL Industries Inc. and Kronos Worldwide Inc.
In addition to his daughter and brother, Simmons is survived by his wife, Dee Simmons of Dallas; another brother, Douglas Simmons of Dallas; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Rest in peace, Mr. Simmons.
That’s a uplifting, inspiring response when an individual passes.
Hopefully his heirs won’t be writing checks to Rove, the bloviating liberal.
He has billions of dollars, and I don’t.
But he’s dead, and I’m not.
Huh.
This Richard Simmons was very upset and indignant that the White House has so far ignored his many offers to help educate people about exercising or Obamacare. “They have rejected me!, I guess I’m just not their set of sheets”.
