The way the nuclear talks were handledwith U.S. officials secretly meeting their Iranian counterparts before more formal talks involving world powersparticularly rankled the Saudis.

If by “astounding” you mean “completely expected by anyone halfway paying attention,” then yes, I agree.
This Obama administration, including Clinton and Kerry at State, has totally destroyed the US regarding foreign relations. No former allied country trusts the US now.
