Most people involved in the tech scene have at least one friend who has been warning everyone they know about protecting their digital trail for years and have watched that friend get accused of being being a tinfoil-hat-wearing conspiracy theorist. But 2013 is the year that proved your "paranoid" friend right.
...
And while the NSA story alone undoubtedly gives the "paranoid" plenty of reasons to say "I told you so," a slew of other reports from this year gave them even more reasons to retreat into the wilderness and start subsistence farming.

My warning is one initiated by our Government Customer, to my place of employment.
FACEBOOK is a security risk!!
No, not just for ID theft.
For invisible takeover of your computer, either for use as a transfer among a web of IP addresses, or as a server, for whatever the intruder would like to store or send from your location.
IF they are doing it with facebook then they are certainly doing it with Apple, Google, MS and Yahoo too.
Just because you’re paranoid, doesn’t mean that they’re NOT out to get you. I think the tin-foil-hat crowd may have been on to something.
Seems the “Tin foil hat wearing wackos”, were right all along.
Back in the early nineties I was at a meeting of a group of fellow conservatives in my former city when one older member of the group warned “Stay off the internet what ever you do!”. He was very exercised about it; literally waving his arms and raising his voice. But that was before personal electronic devices became ubiquitous (I may have been the only one in the room with a cell phone).
Obviously, I did not heed his warning, but I would not post anything on the internet that I would not want the whole world to see. Similarly, I don’t put anything in email that is really private. Since we know that when a computer is connected to the net it is vulnerable, never leave anything on the hard drive of a networked computer unless you are OK with it being read by criminals or the government (But I repeat myself).
6weekcycle.com has been tracking some stuff.. useful for those ho don’t believe the media or the govt... which I think is a lot of FR
I remember arguing with people about the existance and dangers of video cameras going up at every intersection when they first started doing it. I had to phsically point them out to people who drove by them every single day because they just couldn't see them otherwise.
I've been shocked to watch what has happened to this nation, and what a huge mass of sheep we all are. How else to explain how "red light" cameras even exist, when they should have been blasted out of existence with shotguns within hours of being installed? The total survellance state was completely predictable, obvious, and inevitable because people just really don't care as long as monday night football comes on as scheduled.
Back in the late 90’s there was a freeper who I will not name who worked for Verizon that made several veiled references to his backdoor work with the Feds...
None of this is news to me.
