“arrest data shows that more than 1,000 gun-possession charges in New York City were boosted from misdemeanors to felonies because of the changes”

Hmm, I guess the thugs and prosecutors (but I am being redundant)in NYS are unaware of “ex poste facto” clause in the US Constitution; Article I, Section 9, Clause 3. They should at least be aware of the document, as they wipe their behinds with it on a daily basis.

***more than 1,000 gun-possession charges in New York City were boosted from misdemeanors to felonies because of the changes”***

Does this mean the new felons will not be required to register their firearms as it violates their 5th Amendment rights?

Haynes v. United States (1968).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haynes_v._United_States

“The original Haynes decision continues to block state prosecutions of criminals who fail to register guns as required by various state law gun registration schemes.”
