“Turkey has become a repository for the social and political dysfunctions of the rest of the world. They can’t seem to catch a break.”
You need to give all of us a break.
Turkey is today the result of informed choices - by actual choice or by default - the people, the political class and anyone who is or was anyone in Turkey made, or have made in the past. Whatever interests anyone outside Turkey had, enough persons in Turkey had Turkish reasons for alligning wih them. No one from outside Turkey put a gun to a single Turks head and forced them to take a course different than one they thought was in their Turkish interest to take.
Your comment is just one giant and phony excuse for Turkey and its people.
The genesis of my comment came from getting to know several Turkish immigrants, so there may be some group attribution error. The individuals did not complain, but took a dim view of all of the above: Islam, the Arab world, U.S. foreign policy, Russia, you name it, even though they are titularly Muslim. I discussed Israel with a couple of them. There was no animus.
