California illegal immigrants can get law license, state Supreme Court rules

Citing a new state law allowing illegal immigrants to get their law licenses, the California Supreme Court on Thursday paved the way for a Chico man to fulfill his dream of becoming an attorney despite his not being a U.S. citizen.

In a unanimous ruling, the state Supreme Court determined there is no reason to block Sergio Garcia's bid for a California law license, now that a new law permits the state's high court to give such licenses to immigrants who are not yet citizens. State legislators, backed by Gov. Jerry Brown, pushed the legislation last fall as Garcia's case was unfolding in the Supreme Court.During arguments in the fall, the justices appeared unlikely to back Garcia because federal immigration law appeared to preclude giving a law license to illegal immigrants. But the court invited the Legislature to fix the problem if it wanted to solve the conflict with federal laws. In Thursday's ruling, the Supreme Court concluded that there is no longer reason to deny a law license to Garcia, or other illegal immigrants in his position.

"We conclude there is no state law or state public policy that would justify precluding undocumented immigrants, as a class from obtaining a law license in California," Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye wrote for the court.

Catchy sales pitch though:

“Hire a criminal to defend you at your criminal trial”

Why aren’t they immediately jailed when they have been identified as illegal?

I see the elites' advocacy for illegal immigration coming to a screeching halt with this ruling. Next, we need to allow law firms to outsource to China and India.

Legal fees are just too high. It's time to address the critical shortage of lawyers, and there's no better way...

They ruled he was of “good moral character”. What part of he is a criminal don’t they get?

Just reinforces the facts that

> Cheaters do win.

> If you are a person trying to enter the country legally, why abide by the laws. Just disappear and wait it out. Amnesty is right around the corner.

Ya. Apparently, abiding by immigration laws is at the discretion of the individual.

Just asking...How do you hold an illegal attorney in contempt of court and order him into jail? Because technically, he should be there anyway.

If they can become a lawyer how long before they can become a judge?

Or a politician? governor? president? you see, it's all coming together.

“Dear Jerry Brown,

Please send me a list of laws that do not have to be followed in California.
It could be a great boon to California's economy if businesses knew that they had the same rights as illegal invaders. They could then ignore the draconian EPA laws and the ridiculous Obamacare laws.

California can once again be a state to find freedom and mayhem like the Wild West.

Change the motto the ‘The No Laws Enforced State’”

Seriously -- Sadly, this is probably our fate. Thank God I will be long gone before it happens.

As a great historian said in 1888: "In declining states the leadership intuitively chooses the most harmful course of action." One possibly bright feature of this inane ruling the Hindu, Japanese, Chinese, Arab and the Eskimo can all practice law in California without having to come to the state.

So give them law licenses and deport them. They can practice law via mail-order or online from their home country.

Lest I forget. The very purpose of these decisions is to eliminate a distinction between citizen and non citizen. The people in charge have already lost that capacity to make such a distinction.
