Rush Limbaugh to the rescue for Irish horse and carriage drivers in Central Park
Irish Central ^ | January 4, 2014 | JAMES O'SHEA

Rush Limbaugh has come out swinging in defence of the heavily Irish horse and carriage industry in New York’s Central Park after new mayor Bill de Blasio promised to put them off the streets.

Over half the drivers of the 200 horses are Irish, but they are fighting a rearguard action against de Blasio, who had major support from animal rights groups.

De Blasio stated that one of his first acts would be to end the horse and carriage trade and replace it with electric car tours.

"We are going to quickly and aggressively move to make horse carriages no longer a part of the landscape in New York City... They are not humane. ... It's over."

Limbaugh, among others, scoffed at that.

What are the odds these Irish folks are Catholics? Is the mayor aiding and abetting Obama’s war on Catholics?

Warren Wilhelm (aka "Bill di Blah-ZERO) needs to have all of the Irish and draft horse owners across the country, write, wire and post card the NYC Mayor's (or is it now TZAR Wilhelm's) office putting them on notice that this will NOT be tolerated!

It is cruel and inhumane treatment of draft horses to deny them the right to do what they are born to do, not to mention forcing hundreds of carriage drivers to lose their jobs and be forced into welfare, food stamps and unpaid medical bills, while they lose their homes, cars and everything else merely became "Wilhelm the Terrible" issues an edict, like other totalitarian despots do!!!

“Replace the carriages with sedan chairs, and the horses with homeless people? “

Great idea!

Perhaps a slight nod to the technological revolution and allow an upgrade to rickshaws.

Of course, any rickshaw passenger who is a “person of color” must have a rickshaw pulled by a white man.

I may start a business... call it “Reparations Rickshaws”.

Charge by the minute, not the mile.

Sell rickshaw medallions for $250,000

All Livestock... er, operators, must be Vegans, wearing Organic, Earth Toned Hemp clothing.

etc, etc, etc.

Is there a “greener” form of transportation than a horse and carriage?

Was thinking the same thing. Horse and carriage is "greener" than electric car.

its horses receive excellent care to include plenty of daily and weekly rest and even pasture vacation.

Their is a family gnome who is a horse lover and has spent time with the owners of said carriages and their horses and hanging at the stable. Got to know a lot of the horses by name in their youth, and yes they own their own horse today. If they were miss treated I am sure I would have heard about it.

This is about power and making his mark and then acting like a Benevolent Diktator when he backs down. Mussolini complex me thinks he has. But it is also about sending a message, I am in power don't screw with me.

IMHO only a fool would consider giving up a carriage ride for a ride in an electric carriage / car or whatever he has in mind. It takes all the joy and fun out of it.

If it does happen, their are plenty of other cities where these rides occur and I am sure the horses would find good homes in these cities...

I have seen working horses in horrible condition If they are well cared for and treated appropriately that is one thing But if not, shut them down

They are treated very well.

What could be more fun than a horse and carriage ride through Central Park? It is something a child remembers their whole life.

How many people became engaged in one? It is romance, adventure and old world elegance in arguably the most exciting city in the world.

I can’t imagine that authentic New Yawkers will allow such a loss.

Years ago, the horsies on 59th Street were not too well-cared for. Then that actress Kim Somebody and her then hubbie, Alec Baldwin, started lobbying to get rid of them. The usual celebrity brouhaha ensued with both sides - the people who loved the carriages and the PETA types - going after each other. I guess in the interim between then and now, the horse owners and stables cleaned up their act. I stopped following it after awhile. Of course, Kaiser Wilhelm lives 30 years in the past, so I’m not surprised he’s finally caught up with this.

I guess he thinks it would be more humane to turn them into glue.

Idiot! Those horses have to be kept looking good for the public. They’re probably the best-treated horses out there.

Brilliant. Take away a major attraction for tourists to NYC as well as tax revenue.

Doesn’t get muchcdumber than that.

How many hours does each horse work? Maybe they work them to the bone. If they are, they should be shutdown.

rickshaw?
= = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Only if the ‘power supply’ is a straight, white male.

Anyone else will bring the ‘professional race/gender/choice hustlers’ out in droves.

Or would that make them ‘drovers’?

From what I’ve heard, Wilhelm and the PETA types are going to farm these nags out to people who love and admire the beauty of the equine species.

So "Red Bob" is going to seize these guys horses and give them to other people? Don't think he has his end game figured out.

We all know the end game: the proverbial glue factory. Only it won’t be appearing on Page 1 of the New York Times.
