An 88-year-old World War II veteran was thrown in jail for not being able to afford repairs to his business. Kenneth Knudsons jewelry store was deemed a public hazard zone and in need up updates.
The city of Horton, Kansas offered to do the repair work for $10,000 dollars and apply it to his taxes. Knudson, whose jewelry store business is already struggling, said that was too expensive.
On December 23, he appeared in court and told a judge he did not have the money. The judge then fined Knudson $100 dollars and put him in jail for one night.

Oh no...I agree with you guys.
I just don’t know what being a WWII vet has to do with this. It seems it’s always tossed in the headline as if it is either the reason he was put in jail...or the reason he should not be put in jail.
Well, I hope that Judge Michale Riley feels real good about himself.
The point is that the World War II (and vets from later wars) all risked their lives to fight for liberty and freedom from tyranny, only end up living in a police state in their twilight years. You don’t see the terrible irony in that?
Actually I don’t. We are all victims of this tyranny.
But it will only apply to the productive, not to the leeches...
These old godgers have fallen afoul of a Kansas code cop.
Let’s hope they don’t end up
Bound
Tortured
Killed
I think you're onto it. Next step would be to condemn the property as a public hazard and the municipality could seize it.
Personally, I'm sitting here FUMING that any judge could throw an 88 year old in prison even for a day for something so innocuous.
The fact it's an 88 year old Vet has me completely boiling over. That man deserves far better than the country he fought for is doing to him......
I mean, he's 88. Even if he's as healthy as an 88 year old can be at that age we're all pretty fragile health-wise.
Anyone know where a donation to him can be sent? WE OWE THEM!!!
