McCain, Graham blast Obama for Al Qaeda-related takeover of Fallujah, call situation 'predictable'

Republican senators on Saturday blamed the Obama administration for Al Qaeda affiliates over-running parts of Iraq, including the city of Fallujah, which the United States secured before President Obama removed all U.S. forces from that country in 2011.

Sen. John McCain, Arizona, and Lindsey Graham, South Carolina, called the recent turn of events “as tragic as they were predictable” and suggested Obama misled Americans into believing that Iraqi leaders wanted U.S. forces out of their country.

“While many Iraqis are responsible for this strategic disaster, the administration cannot escape its share of the blame,” the senators said in a joint statement. “When President Obama withdrew all U.S. forces … over the objections of our military leaders and commanders on the ground, many of us predicted that the vacuum would be filled by America's enemies and would emerge as a threat to U.S. national security interests. Sadly, that reality is now clearer than ever.”

The Al Qaeda-affiliated fighters took over Fallujah on Friday after a bloody three-day battle, raising their flag over government buildings as a sign of victory, according to The Washington Post.

Oh, and by “presence” I don’t mean John Kerry flying in every few weeks.

I’m afraid so. Muslims have no desire to be civilized. The Japanese did. They began modernizing long before WWII. That was such a ridiculous comparison I could hardly believe it.

The Japanese killed many more Americans than the terrorists and they would have continued had not the US occupied. Same with Germany

Yes, and we achieved total surrender before we began an occupation and rebuilding.

Iraq is small potatoes and easy in comparison. But you have to have a presence to do the job.

It would not be small potatoes to get Muslims to surrender. To think it possible without a near total genocide is the height of ignorance of Islam.

The war in Japan wasn’t still simmering in Japan after a decade of “nation building”.

That is because we defeated them first. They surrendered, unconditionally. Ask yourself, what would it take to achieve that against Islam?

My bet is that it can be done for less than $10 million, and without nuclear weapons.

The Japanese needed two huge nuclear blasts and occupation before they decided to be civilized. I’m sure the American POW’s and the Chinese would love to hear your theories about how civilized the Japanese were. The Japanese had to have civilization imposed and forced on them by us...they were not on that path themselves.

I'm talking about their interest in being part of the civilized world not how far they had come politically at the time. There is no such thing in Islam. Your view of the world is very divorced from reality. Your idea of machoism is simply a narcissistic sociopathy. It is not a manly thing to do to commit tens of thousands of lives to a certain failure.

We have plenty of PONTIFICATORS the likes of McCain and Graham, but not one damn politician who can, or will attempt to turn the tide.

Getting muslims to surrender is impossible? Hmm.. don’t seem to recall full scale war for years between us and Egypt under Mubarak or Jordan nder Abdullah or Kuwait or Qatar or Dubai. Seems that contrary to your view muslims can be in political alliance with the west.

The Japanese were not civilized...neither were the Germans. They were fascist monsters on the road toward darkness and destruction, not enlightenment.

Whenever either of them do something that is consistent with being a conservative, I start wondering what their angle is.

In the case of linda, she's running hard for reelection. She's trying to throw "her people" (read, left leaning moderates) some red meat to chew on.

The folks here in SC are working hard to bring linda down. First step: don't let her get over 50% in the primary.

One thing that Germany and Japan had was a sense of order and civility ingrained in their societies and the people still had a desire to return to it.

The mideast doesn’t have a history of civility ingrained in the people. They have a history of brutality that is like mortar of the bricks that make them. Men brutalize those they see as lesser men, all men brutalize the women, women brutalize women they see as lesser women and all the people brutalize the children and the children brutalize each other.

I do a lot of online work for a couple who travel all over the world. They call Dubai the fragile glass diamond of middle eastern civilization. They say its a facade to attract western dollars but in the shadows of the skyscrapers is the same brutal middle east.

How many Marines died to take that city? What a waste. I spent 395 days in that shit hole. Logged over 150 hours of combat time as a UH-60 pilot. All a waste of time trying to help useless Muslim savages. A complete waste. Bush fantasy. All his fault.
