The year ahead promises tough gut-check tests for the nation, including domestic and foreign policy challenges likely to determine the fate of the Obama presidency. No domestic issue will have a greater impact on the president and on the electoral fortunes of both parties than the success or failure of the Affordable Care Act better known as Obamacare.
Republicans are counting on it to flop spectacularly. Its their big election bet. The health insurance plan, they believe, will prove a mortal mistake, undermining the Obama presidency and handing the GOP complete congressional power in this falls midterm elections.
But its a gamble. If by November the presidents plan, his signature domestic initiative, hasnt recovered from its stumbling start, odds favor Republicans to score well in the elections, holding on to their House majority and gaining at least the six seats necessary for control of the Senate, now in Democratic hands.
If on the other hand, the ACA lives up to Obamas sales pitch with enrollees in vast numbers entering the system with relative ease and moderate premium costs Republicans will be hard-pressed to explain their unrelenting assault on the program as Armageddon itself and their obstructionist tactics in Congress and in Republican-run states.
The stakes for Obama couldnt be higher. Even his credibility and the value of his promises and other commitments are at risk in the success or failure of the ACA.
On the foreign policy front, the central issue is Iran and Obamas hope of winning Tehrans agreement to curtail its nuclear program in return for a minimal relaxation of the sanctions crippling that countrys economy.
Under terms of the tentative bargain reached late last year, Iran must agree to the Wests terms within six months or the current sanctions regimen remains in place, or is even toughened.

Your idiocy knows no bounds......there is no "fix" to a law that is designed to bring power to one party, a law that was always about control and not about making health care better.
I'll double down, that post of yours is one of the most inane and stupid posts ever recorded on FR.
“Fix Obamacare, dont remove it.”
Socialism doesn’t work, there is NO way to fix it!
I’ll back down.
I cannot discuss this issue freely, so I will stop talking about it.
Just be aware there are protections which are good, and I believe that is one. That is all.
Over and out.
From the article “If by November the presidents plan, his signature domestic initiative, hasnt recovered from its stumbling start, odds favor Republicans ...”
Let me just say that if this thing is still such a hash by Nov, 2014 we are going to have bigger problems than just the fate of the politicians, of either party.
Like I said.
This is a topic I cannot discuss freely.
I have requested my original post be deleted, I strongly support it but it is likewise strongly opposed by the owner of this site so I stand down.
FReegards.
Thanks!
Due to the fact we now live in a Fascist Police State dictatorship, you must understand that laws mean nothing. Obamacare is whatever Obama says it is...he illegally changes it day to day at his whim....not by rule of Constitutional law.
Welcome to the Banana States of America.
That you can't see the obvious truth after all this time is frankly a bit disturbing. That you somehow believe we should "fix" this monstrosity of a totalitarian bill is beyond comprehension.
FReegards back.
I wish I could say you exaggerate.
My mom grew up in the nazi regime. She says she’s grateful she won’t live too many years longer as she’s seen it all before.
Not sure if you've noticed, but EVERY TIME Pubbies bend over and acquiesce for the left's programs, we take another kick in the teeth. Please tell me exactly where increased spending, expanding welfare and funding 0Care have garnered support - by their base - for Pubbies.
Why *fix* socialism for the leftists? Why destroy the (currently) greatest healthcare system in world? Whose side are you on?
(Sorry no comment, I’m out of this thread)
With best regards.
:D
We need postcards of this to leave behind, everywhere! It would also be nice to see this posted on outside sites, at comments. An excellent graphic to spread the message.
"Those Democrats leering over my shoulder owe me bigtime. This
healthcare bill insures we have a permanent Democratic majority."
" All except those Tea Party types, swallowed hook, line and sinker my promises that they could:
(1) keep their existing health plans,
(2) keep their own doctors that they like,
(3) keep their 25-year-olds on the family health plan,
(4) never be denied coverage for a pre-existing condition,
(5) sign up instantly on my tech-savvy government Web site,
(6) buy insurance only after becoming seriously ill."
(7) save $2,500 in annual premiums in the bargain....
(8) All without any new taxes."
"Them sonovagun Tea Partiers will rue the day they criticized my wonderful bill."
So, by January 5, we have the best joke of the year. None others need apply.
