Some of Texas’ biggest business trade groups are moving to counter tea party and anti-government forces that have dominated recent Republican primaries.
The movement mirrors the schism happening nationally between hard right and establishment Republicans. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce recently pledged $50 million to back pro-business Republicans in U.S. Senate primaries and fight tea party insurgents.
Michael Quinn Sullivan, president of the fiscal-hawk group Empower Texans said the Texas Future Business Alliance is nothing but a group of big-money interests wanting taxpayer dollars to flow into their pockets. “This is what we’ve come to expect coming out of the Washington, anti-Ted Cruz movement,” Sullivan said. “They want people who will vote for cronyism and corporate welfare.

Every youtube vid I watch starts of with a *Texas Battleground* faux news report ad. It proclaims that Texas is turning blue. They’re spending quite a bit on those youtube ads, I’d suppose.

I certainly agree with you for the time being, but then I look at the license plates and UHauls tracking up and down these interstates, and like Redford in “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid”, I find myself asking, “Who ARE these guys?”.
What are they doing here? I begin to wonder what the heck is unfolding for Texas and Oklahoma.

One of my friends owns a hair salon, and he has lost over 50% of his customers due to layoffs and unemployment. The number of empty storefronts here is staggering.
Just talking to young people of high school age, over 50% are on EBT cards. They cannot find part-time work locally; too many unemployed competing for the same jobs.
There are jobs in Vancouver WA and Portland OR. Those jobs are over 100 miles round trip from the Longview/Kelso area, and such trips will use up most of the earned income by feeding the gas tank.
Are there ways to beat these disadvantages? Sure, and folks are using those tricks; carpooling or staying with friends or relatives in the two large city’s mentioned.

For sure somebody’s numbers are wrong, be it laymen and small business owners
or the State. Maybe they better help the Gov. get the accurate numbers and a
few tax dollars may come their way to help the population during hard times.
UHaul/Penske type trucks are hard to gauge where they come from as they get shuffled
around the country quite a bit. But it does mean people are moving. One interesting
thing I’ve been told is that truck rental fees for areas where people are leaving
are much higher than fees that would be going into that area.
I appreciate you making that point, about the country wide shuffling of the UHauls and other moving company vehicle licence plates. I have to say though, there are an unusual number of blue state license plates in TX & OKLA with nothing in them but the occupant. Not a positive sign by the looks of some of the occupants. Nova Scotia plate in north Texas is pretty weird also. :)
One thing that happens is when they get too many vechicles in one area they have
to deadhead them back to areas where the demand is greater. I knew a guy
that did that for Penske.
