Flew in from Mexico with a stop in Tucson. From reports, it appears more than one landing approach was attempted. Prayers up.

Reuters said:

The Canadair Challenger 601 was arriving from Toluca, Mexico at about 12:30 p.m. MT when it crashed, according to the Aviation Safety Network website.

But the flight plan, in the link provided by Gila says:

Tucson Intl (KTUS – info) - Aspen-Pitkin County (KASE – info)
Tucson, AZ - Aspen, CO
10:04AM MST - 12:12PM MST
Scheduled: 09:15AM MST - Scheduled: 10:32AM MST

Duration: 2 hours 8 minutes
Sunday, January 5, 2014

Seems like Reuters got it wrong, again.

The weather’s very bad around the peaks for any kind of civilian aircraft for now.

And look at the track log!

His altitude, headings, are speed are all over the place. He did a circle halfway there and the multiple when he arrived.

Wow! I wonder if it was a medical problem or he was on something. Interested in hearing more details

Sounds right. From another article: "According to transcripts from the cockpit voice recorder there was no mayday issued by the pilots although there was concern over wind gusts in the area."

I'm not a pilot. What was that 360 at the halfway point?

No Reuters was correct ...at least this time...:^)

It was a flight from Mexico, the Tucson stop of about an hour was probably for customs and fuel.

This is the earlier leg into Tucson.

That appears to be just after 1:04 pm and it looks like ATC dropped him from 33,000 ft down to 29,000 ft over the Dove Creek VOR - a navigation beacon/aid.

In the track window select the “Sectional” choice for the background map and you can see the VOR compass rose marked on the chart.

"Seems like Reuters got it wrong again."

Judging from the altitude going up and down, was he doing a 360 horizontally or vertically??.....

I enjoy learning about technologies but am not a pilot either. A 360 along a route might indicate a brief time of indecision or a late effort to gain altitude before proceeding.

The tracklog graph in my post 15 and the numerical speed and altitude table below are very strange. If the passengers were prone to airsickness, I bet they lost their cookies.
