After Bill Young died Oct. 18 at 82, he was given a funeral befitting a legend. Speakers including House Speaker John Boehner and high-ranking military officials praised his skills at crafting legislation and advocating for his constituents.
There was a second theme amid the accolades: Bill Young, family man.
A lengthy photo montage showed the congressman with the three sons (one adopted) and eight grandchildren who resulted from his marriage to Beverly.
But no one mentioned the three children, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren from his marriage to the former Marian Ford. Nor were any of those family members included in the photo presentation.
Then an unscripted moment changed the tenor of the service. It happened 1 hour and 39 minutes in, after speeches from two of Young's sons and a Marine corporal close to the family.
One son stayed behind at the lectern.
"I would also like to say that he also has three other children who are adults," Robert Young announced. He gave their names Pam, Terry, Kimber and said that they are "not really speakers" and that he "didn't want to put them on the spot."
"Actually, I don't know what their last names are," he added, eliciting nervous titters from the section closest to the stage reserved for family and friends, including more than 30 members of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Afterward, questions swirled about the congressman's first family. Why were they absent from the service and why were their names not included in most obituaries?
Hardly anyone knew it, but two of Bill Young's children mentioned in Robert Young's statement Pamela Ernest, 63, and Kimber Butts, 59 were actually seated seven rows from the front during the funeral.
Terry Young watched it on television from home.

his new family, and never looked back
I’m always amazed at how some men can do this.
What a piece of crap this guy was! What kind of man does not return calls from his own kids???
So which family gets the $175,000 death benefit that Congress hands out..or do they each get it?
His designated beneficiary.

I’ve always wondered how anyone, man or woman, can walk away and never looks back at the children they helped bring into the world. How do they rationalize their behavior and how do they sleep at night?
Disgusting. This kind of moral rot ought to be expunged from the conservative movement.
I believe in forgiveness for those who realize they failed and try to make amends. This guy, it seems, was unrepentant and brazen. Repulsive.
My husband had a father like this, and a step-mother like Beverly. She did everything possible to destroy their relationship, and he was all about himself and his new family. My husband is now 52 and has not spoken to him in 17 years. He calls him the sperm-donor. My husband is present everyday, in every moment of his children’s lives. The sperm-donor has an almost adult grandchild he has never met, and a grand-great child he will never meet. If he passed my children on the street they wouldn’t know him from Adam. It’s his loss...
The second wife sounds like a bat out of hell, and he richly deserved it. Hope he enjoys his time in purgatory, or worse. Very glad the first family told their story. Very sad that this stuff reflects on the Republicans, or rather, the GOP-e's Permanent Political Class. 2014: Throw all the incumbents out.
Interesting look as to what happens to a man after he was elevated to national nobility. After a few years breathing the rarefied air of Washington D.C. it seems to me like he went from a damn fine man to a typical member of the ruling class. As such he had to not only ditch the reminders of his past but to bury them. Common story among the Washington elites.
Another reason for term limits.
Term limits, that’s exactly what came to my mind. Washington, D.C. is a toxic environment which corrupts almost anyone if he or she is there long enough. We need to limit people’s exposure to this cesspool.
“The second wife sounds like a bat out of hell, and he richly deserved it.”
I live in his district (relatively new to the area), and she has been in the news a lot since his death. She’s nuts. Among a variety of other things, she wanted to hand-pick her husband’s successor, and is very bitter that people, including her son, have not fallen into line to give her who she wants.
Bill Young was a Republican. If he had been a democrat this story NEVER would have been written this way...
he was the rep for my district... which means i’ve not been represented very well the last few years (they would brag about him voting, but hasn’t stumped to sway opinion in years... leaving that up to Bilirakis, who’s done a great job)
hopefully, the upcoming special election on March 11 will change that for the better
Brig. Gen. Mark Bircher’s (Ret) put his hat in the ring last month:

if he’s for smaller govt, then that’s good enough for me. Allen West has endorsed him over the others, which has swayed me so far.
In the two instances I'm personally aware of, there's a domineering second wife, demanding that hubby have nothing whatsoever to do with his previous wife or children. Pair that with a "man" who is "whipped" and it's disasterous for the children involved.
btw, on Brig Gen Mark Bircher(ret)’s political philosophy:
“Mark believes the United States should return to its founding principles of limited government, fiscal responsibility, and individual liberty. During the course of his career, Mark learned that results matter and that leadership is more than a title. He intends to take those lessons to Washington. Representing the interests of the people of Florida’s 13th Congressional District, he will work to end the irresponsible spending that burdens our children and grandchildren with crushing debt, stifles our economy, and restricts the economic growth that is the key to job creation. He will work to restore the personal liberties of the American people. He believes public service to the nation is a duty of citizenship to the country he loves.”
works for me

This is the Congressional seat recently opened following the passing of Congressman Bill Young (85) a couple of months ago.
Below is information excerpted from Brig. Gen. Mark Bircher's (Ret) campaign website.
I would encourage you to BOTH contact and help with his campaign, and if possible, make a MARINE donation.
Visit Brig. Gen. Mark Bircher's campaign website.
My Free Republic post tonight has "not" been requested or solicited by anyone, including "anyone" associated in any way with the Mark Bircher Campaign for Congress.

Who cares? A piece of crap is a piece of crap. I’m sick of defending evil people because they parade around with an R after their names.
