Group Unveils Satan Statue Design For Oklahoma SEAN MURPHY

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A satanic group unveiled designs Monday for a 7-foot-tall statue of Satan it wants to put at the Oklahoma state Capitol, where a Ten Commandments monument was placed in 2012.

Fla. rejects request to install Satanic display Associated Press The New York-based Satanic Temple formally submitted its application to a panel that oversees the Capitol grounds, including an artist's rendering that depicts Satan as Baphomet, a goat-headed figure with horns, wings and a long beard that's often used as a symbol of the occult. In the rendering, Satan is sitting in a pentagram-adorned throne with smiling children next to him.

"The monument has been designed to reflect the views of Satanists in Oklahoma City and beyond," temple spokesman Lucien Greaves said in a statement. "The statue will also have a functional purpose as a chair where people of all ages may sit on the lap of Satan for inspiration and contemplation."

The Satanic Temple maintains that the Oklahoma Legislature's decision to authorize a privately funded Ten Commandments monument at the Capitol opened the door for its statue. The Ten Commandments monument was placed on the north steps of the building in 2012, and the Oklahoma chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union has sued to have it removed.

“I may disagree with what you say, but I’ll defend to the death your right to say it”.

Oklahoma doesn’t get to decide what is or is not a religion, especially since Satanism is fairly well established, like it or not.

The devil, they say.

Let them put that thing up, if they must. It will not be long until it is pranked.

It’s a chair to sit on the devil’s lap too...?

I can see little kids daring one another to do it, especially under full moons or on Halloween.

The devil is, however, only a little runt next to God. Someone else will put up a Jesus statue, and then the devil one will start to have, well, all kinds of “Bad luck.” Reminds me of the biblical story of the statue of Dagon.

It “could” be the occasion of some spiritual purification, as Christians find out again what really DOES work against the devil. It isn’t worldly schemes.

Yes, as a matter of fact, they do. I mean, if you can, they can, and that’s certainly what you are doing with that statement.

The fact that it is “fairly well established” does not bear on its validity.

Last time I checked, the government (federal and state) was prohibited from making legal determinations with regard to the practice of religion. That would tend to include whether something is or is not a religion. You and I are free to opine one way or the other all day long; that’s because our opinions do not carry the weight of law.

They’re basing this entirely on the Greek god Pan.

There’s absolutely no biblical basis for that ‘appearance’.

In fact, Lucifer was a beautiful angel of light.

I hate stupid heathens.

Oklahoma constitution: “ Perfect toleration of religious sentiment shall be secured...”

And, at the federal level, there’s that bit about “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”. The “establishment” part not only refers to the creation of an official state religion, but to whether or not any religion has been “established”.

On top of that, there’s the bit about freedom of speech. If they let one religious group put up a display on the public square, they can’t reasonably refuse another so long as the other group’s display is appropriate.

Then I declare my mind a religion and by its tenets I am exempt from 0bamaCare as its abortion coverage mandates violate my conscience.

There’s absolutely no biblical basis for that ‘appearance’.

I was suspicious that the story was a hoax, but then saw the "artist's rendition" at the link.

They even thought to include the Obamacare caduceus logo over satan's family jewels! I mean, can anyone really make that stuff up? Talk about having a direct line to the White Hut Omen Room. Guess they needed seed money from product placement?

Besides, obviously the Satanists in NY have been brainstorming on their Baphomet-goathead project for a while. Only back in 2000 the public wasn't ready for it yet.

They are going for maximum offensiveness, not mythological authenticity.

The real point is than no religion should put up a monument.
