Despite 65MPH being popular among many motorists and the trucking industry, the proposal to lower speed limits along major highways in NY may move in the legislature because of ardent support from Gov. Andrew Cuomo and key members of the State Senate.
New York State should just park it.
So what is the proposed limits and what are the current limits? Info?
Native NYer and nice to visit mom and dad but glad I do not live in that state. In VA they raised the speed limit on rural parts of the interstate to 70. I do not see why the speed limit can’t be 70 once one gets outside the NYC metro area.
I might add on top of one of highest gas taxes in the country, there is a reason the gas stations on the NJ side of the border are some of the busiest in the country, and tolls and tolls everywhere. You can’t cross a creek in NY without paying a toll.
Most states are increasing their speed limits or leaving them alone.
I’ve just about got that rear bumper mounted directional EMP generator perfected. It’ll come in handy if I ever drive up there.
They are proposing reducing the posted Speed limits to 55 MPH on all roads in NY
65 MPH speed limit on the beltway around Houston and you will get run over if you adhere to it.

I was running about 85 the other day and I wasn’t passing anyone, just running with the traffic. Then a cop passed me on a motorcycle.
First I’ve heard this BS.... His old man lied through his teeth about the death rates rising if they put it to 65, the reverse happened.
As a corollary, the deaths from automobile accidents also fell.

In Texas they used reduced speed limits around major cities, etc.
to meet environmental air standards as opposed to mandating
slower speeds statewide.
The main danger from driving on the interstates is falling asleep on those long boring stretches. Slower speeds means more time to get noddy. They’ve added the edge rumble stripe to handle driving off the road...which still leaves those sleeping while driving straight.
Further, the higher speeds created a large DROP in deaths per mile.

According to my local NYS assemblyman they have this proposal ready to pull out of a drawer when they think they can get enough votes for it. They idea is to reinstate the 55 MPH speed limit on all roads posted above 55. It is part of another proposal as I understand it.
I don’t know whether to believe him or disbelieve him. He seemed pretty certain about, that when the time was right they would pull another SAFE Act deal with it.

I found that to be pretty much true thoughout TX when I was transporting vehicles
for dealerships. There was a section of I-10 east of Houston in Chambers
county to Jeffeson County that they seemed to be a little less forgiving.
